In this country

People on MN and IRL really often make statements about things they don’t like and claim that it’s something unique to the U.K. Just two examples I have read on here today:
Why are we soft on crime in this country?
Why do people in this country love their cars so much?

And another one that crops up again and again:
Why does the U.K. take so many refugees?

Why make statements like this if you have no actual evidence that it’s something particular to the U.K.? It’s fair enough if you don’t like something and you have noticed that it’s reported a lot but why then invent an idea that it’s particularly British?

The thing about refugees really annoys me because it is very far from the truth (many, many other countries take far more refugees) and crime too, the U.K. is definitely not soft in crime in comparison to most other similar countries.

It’s fine to give an opinion about something that annoys you that you think is prevalent but why not Google it before firmly stating that it’s a particular issue here.
