Can you show me your bedroom with newborn baby cot/ moses basket?

I'm trying to see how best to organise my room.
Did you decorate it a little bit to look like a nursery or did you just add a cot or moses basket?

My room is quite small but I have a double bed, bedside table, wardrobe and chest of drawers.

Why would you decorate your bedroom to look like a nursery? No! Just bung the cot in there!

renthead · 29/09/2023 18:30

Definitely don't decorate your own bedroom like a nursery! No one does that. Focus on decorating the nursery itself, for when baby eventually goes in there.

Jericha · 29/09/2023 18:31

Next to me, which blocked my bedside table drawers so the stuff in them got moved under my dresser temporarily. Added a blackout blind that sticks to the window itself as our window won't take curtains and we already had non black out ones fitted. Only baby items were a stash of muslins, changing mat and some nappies/wipes that lived under the bed. All her clothes and things including spare sheets, sleeping bags etc were in her room which was decorated. She then moved into a cot in her own room at 6 months old. This is what we did with our son too.

You have gone too deep into instragram if you think people redecorate their bedroom for the baby.

BBno4 · 29/09/2023 18:33

I was literally just going to put the moses basket next to my bed but I want to make it look nicer. My walls are plain white atm.

This is NOT Insta.

TinyBearCub · 29/09/2023 18:36

I don't have a photo of my (untidy) bedroom but we left it basically as is. We've got the next2me on my side, added a chest of drawers for DD's bits in the bay window and put her changing mat on top. Oh and a gazillion baby toys scattered around but meant to be in a couple of baskets. Oddly have a piano in there which we put the perfect prep and bottles on. It's always been her favourite room despite lack of baby decor!

I'm all for getting rid of white walls at any opportunity. But paint them a colour you like, not one you think looks nurseryesque

BBno4 · 29/09/2023 18:42

Where would I find the pics on insta? I wouldn't even know what hashtag to use.

Genuine question as I will go there and look for so inspo.

I don’t know why people are being so harsh. You’re excited about your baby coming and want to make a nice environment for you both to be in, literally nothing wrong with that.

I liked in Friends when Rachel and baby Emma lived in Joey’s apartment they had a big letter E up on the wall (above her cot?).

For what it’s worth I think you should make your room a calming place for you. So whatever decor you like that inspires that.

And you could think about lighting too. When you’re up in the night then you won’t want to put the main light on and wake you and baby up even more, so soft lighting options. Red light is supposed to be good.

Your baby won't care!

InTheRainOnATrain · 29/09/2023 18:54

Save the effort for when you have a toddler who you’re trying persuade that their room is cool they definitely want to stay in there until 6am. Baby will only be in their moses basket for a couple of months, then you’ll need to rearrange to get the cot in, then at 6 months ish they’ll probably be moving to their own room. Just decorate however you like.

RosaElize · 29/09/2023 18:54

Why don’t you get some wall decals and stick them next to the crib? That way they can be peeled off when baby transitions

TV interiors are usually death traps that one included. Don’t ever hang anything above a cot. The nail could fail, DC could pull it down and then it falls on top of them.

Lighting is a good point though. Stick a Hue bulb in your bedside lamp and you can dim/colour change it from your phone.

God forbid a pregnant mother wants to make her bedroom nice for her baby!

OP I'd have a look at wall stickers on Amazon. These are cute and £7. Hot Air Balloon & Clouds Wall Decal - amzn.eu/d/4JmIhHv

You could also look at a mobile that can hang from the ceiling or attach to the cot - Skip Hop do a good one.

Perhaps a nice basket to keep baby blankets in at the end of the cot?

I also got an Alexa speaker in my bedroom when I had my baby as it's great to be able to put the radio on hands-free.

snackprovidersupreme · 29/09/2023 18:58

I'd have a think about a "next to me" type thing rather than a Moses basket. Then the baby will be up at the same height as you in bed and easier to reach the baby to feed, especially if you are planning to breastfeed. As everyone else has said, our side cot blocks my bedside table and is a bit of a pain for getting into bed, but it has worked well. We have a basket of nappy stuff in our room and just pop a changing mat on the bed when needed. I also found getting a nightlight for my bedside table useful. (You don't want to turn on a proper light for feeds and changes in the middle of the night.)

If you want to decorate, babies love black and white high contrary when they are very small. Maybe some modern prints?

InTheRainOnATrain · 29/09/2023 18:59

Oh and we used wall decals in DD’s room, from John Lewis and they took all the paint with them when they were removed. I really wouldn’t risk it in my own room knowing they’re only going to be up for 6 months and that my newborn can’t even see properly. Sorry don’t want to sound like a misery guts. I did go all out once mine went into their own rooms as that was worth it IMO!

BBno4 · 29/09/2023 20:16

Thank you, I like the wall decals. I'm also thibking about how I'm going to move my bed around to make more space.

Her baby won’t notice, let alone care.

BBno4 · 29/09/2023 20:23

I'm not doing it for the baby, I'm doing it for me and my eyes when I walk into the bedroom.

Decorate your room however makes you happy. The baby will be in there for such a short time in the grand scheme of things. It’s lovely to have a room that you like that you can retreat to. Both of mine didn’t get on with the Moses basket so went into the cot bed at the foot of the bed from day 3.

Baby will save you the effort and decorate for you, you'll have puke and poo splatters on the walls/carpet from sleep deprived midnight changes in no time!

Honestly though, congratulations on your impending baby but just plonk the bassinet/moses in your room. Decorate when baby moves out of your bedroom. 😊
