Price of a new mattress

I desperately need a new mattress. We should have replaced this 20 year old one a couple of years ago as it’s so uncomfortable and my back is hurting. Anyway, I stayed in a hotel twice in august (same hotel ) and it was the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. I’ve stayed in other hotels but never in a bed this comfortable.

Finally decided that it’s time to buy a new mattress and as my friend was staying in the hotel that I mentioned I asked her to check the make of the mattresses that the hotel uses. She sent me a picture of the mattress label and I’ve priced it up In local bed/mattress shops.

Shocked to find that they retail at €840 😲. My husband thinks it’s too expensive and so do I but…….would it be worth it for great sleep?

I know I could go to the shop and lay on some other ones to test for comfort but it’s not the same as actually sleeping on them.

would love some options please.

That's a good price for a mattress. Mine is a fairly standard pocket-sprung mattress and was on sale for 980 about 2 years ago.

I think £1,000-£1,500 is about right. I paid that twenty years ago (need to change my mattress too).

We paid £1200 in a sale in John Lewis for ours. I don't like it that much either.

What kind is it?

Quite cheap for something you’ll use every day for the next 10+ years

It’s a “Respa Elegance pocket 1320”.

im going to go ahead and order it now that it’s not an extortionate price

I replaced my £1k memory foam (hated it!) with a Hypnos elite mattress a few months ago - it was about £500 and has cured my backache. I was a bit wary after already wasting cash on the memory foam but I'm glad I did now!

A decent mattress does cost £££ but so worth it to not be in pain everyday after a shit nights sleep! If you can afford it it'll be worth the investment.

I am undecided between a Simba or a Nectar mattress. Has anyone had experience with either of these? The Nectar is cheaper than the Simba but I would prefer whichever one was more comfortable

Has anyone bought a hotel mattress from Ebay? I need to buy a new one. Recenrly stayed at a Hilton where the mattress was amazing. This Hilton mattress is so cheap at £100 Inc delivery I feel like there must be a catch
