Mortgage process ...passed affordability now an audit.

We (My two sons, 8 (with additional needs) and 13, and our 4 year old dog) are now homeless. I am priced out of private rent and cannot access social housing due to leaving our rented place without being taken to tribunal. We are moving into my mums tiny remote house without our dog and 3 of us sharing a room.

My mortgage process started I think 9 weeks ago. There has been a lot of back of forth, so much stress, the lender missing things or getting things wrong, my broker doing the same, it is hellish, they have come back with 3 different maximum lends now. On Tuesday my broker phoned to say it was done, my affordability passed and did I wish to proceed...then no email with offer...so I phoned yesterday to be told I needed to provide 6 months bank statements, which I did. Lender told me this was needed because copies my broker sent weren't clear. My broker messaged me this morning to see my case had bee picked for an audit and that was why statements were needed, I spoke to lender a couple of hours ago to then be told that I was going through the longest part of the process before going to offer stage. I have been sending all the documents they request on the same day, i have been sending them directly as my broker has been on leave for 3 weeks.

Is this normal process? I am so anxious and stressed I am being sick, I can't sleep, my chest is painful and my heart is racing constantly. On top of that the seller of the home we were meant to buy is apparently getting anxious and may pull out, his estate agent phoned me 7 times on Tuesday and twice yesterday. I can't take much more.

How stressful! I am in a similar position where rented place was full of damp and mould so kept collating to then be issued a section 21 saying owners could not afford repairs. Had an offer accepted months ago on a property but sellers then had issues which meant delayed and original mortgage offer delayed. Had to start again and with rates increased I thought would be tough but I switched broker as someone recommended a company to me and they got application fast tracked as I had offer accepted and then they put application through to lender and was approved within 2hrs.

I only had to submit last 3mth payslip, last 3mth bank statements, ID and proof of deposit. I would def speak to them
and say you need to get things moving asap so sellers don’t pull out.

Really doesn't sound normal. Consumers have lots of power these days, it would be worth asking to make a complaint due to timescales and unnecessary friction in the process. Also, your broker should be constantly hounding them, that's what they're paid for.
