How funny!! I Googled Canada Water station and I'm there in all my glory 😂
Has anyone else seen themselves on there?

Yes I'm on at a few different locations on different days 😂

Sharpkat · 29/09/2023 21:34

@Needmorelego there are several phone snatchings a day in the area. Has been for years. Police always advise not to take your phone out. I lived there for years, but moved away 4 years ago. I still run a local Facebook group and it is rife.

PickAChew · 29/09/2023 21:35

I was standing by the window, one morning, checking the traffic on my phone, wondering where Ds2's school transport had got to when a Google car passed us, so I am now immortalised as the bedraggled woman in pyjamas, standing by a window and staring at her phone.

There was a guy on Twitter who used to look up his parent’s house on Google Maps regularly. His dad had died, but on Google Maps he was still outside his house, gardening.

I still look at my Gran's house on old google maps. She's not there but it is when she is alive, her window is open and I like to think of her inside, watching the TV and laughing.

Google streetview is like a little peep back in time. Every now and then I like to go and look back years ago and see my Dads old house, see the window open and imagine hes still there, having an afternoon snooze.

Make sure you take a screenshot/photo as they update it.

Some people have loved ones on there and I know someone who went to look again thinking he’d still be there but it had been updated.

Sunshinenrain · 29/09/2023 21:42

How did you know you were there?
Did you see the car and then look up later on?

Needmorelego · 29/09/2023 21:47

@Sharpkat I've never known it to be a particularly bad area compared to any other area of London.
Anyways....I had a look. I don't appear to be there 😂

icebearforpresident · 29/09/2023 22:21

I can just about be seen through the window of my work. My kids think it’s hilarious, I’m just glad i look like I’m actually working 😁

Husband is on it for about 5 miles driving his work van, he was ahead of the car.

StowOnTheWold · 29/09/2023 22:21

I used to be able to see the face in the middle bedroom window in the haunted Dorset farmhouse I used to stay at. Her face was visible from the road because of the gap in the hedge where the garden gate used to be. The owners have shifted the gate round the corner and grown more trees to hide the gap. I think they did it when people posted pictures of the house on SM in order to stop it.

Hohofortherobbers · 29/09/2023 22:38

Yes! Me and the family chased the car up and down the street waving wildly Grin

Colinswheels · 29/09/2023 23:14

My DDs are both on it out walking with my in laws. An Apple Maps car passed us a couple of years ago but I've never seen anything released for our area.

mintich · 29/09/2023 23:14

I'm in my car in Tesco car park!

LipRouge · 29/09/2023 23:31

I don't go out enough to be on google maps, but my partner is always pictured on the phone outside his place of work

AdoraBell · 29/09/2023 23:33

What now? <goes off to check>

crackofdoom · 29/09/2023 23:41

The kids and I went on a StreetView deep dive on a rainy day at the start of the summer holidays. This was sparked by the camera car having passed DS2 and I a couple of weeks previously. It hadn't captured our frantic muggings and gurnings, but it had got us on the doorstep, with me bending over fetchingly 🤦‍♀️. We then went on a virtual rampage through the village, to discover that I was caught up some scaffolding painting the village pub on a previous occasion!! (The house teenager showed me how to flick back through images from previous visits).

Also captured: over the road neighbour walking his dachshunds, 3 doors down neighbour walking yappy fluffball and baby, my mate steaming up the main street of the village, obviously in a hurry.

momymu · 29/09/2023 23:48

My Dh's bum is on Google Maps! He was getting something from the back of the car on our drive 🤣

DinosaurOfFire · 29/09/2023 23:52

For those of you mourning that Google Maps got updated and the photo you enjoyed had gone- if you access Maps on a browser (I use Chrome) it gives you the option to choose the year the photo was taken in. So if your, for eg, dad was in the garden in 2012 but then it was updated in 2015 and 2023, you can click on the option to change the photo year to the one of your choosing.

momymu · 30/09/2023 00:01

Evosie, in your photo, if you look straight ahead, you'll see my old flat! We might have been neighbours at some point!

TheTempest · 30/09/2023 00:06

My wonderful late dad was on it outside his flat, I thought it was lost forever so I’m thrilled to discover I may be able to go back as it were and see him again. Thanks 🙏

griegwithhimandhim · 30/09/2023 00:07

My cat used to be on it, sitting on the mat outside our front door.

feelingalittlehorse · 30/09/2023 00:08

I haven’t, but it caught our village’s phantom poo-er.
Somebody’s dog would shit on the same stretch of pavement most days. Despite much speculation on the local facebook page, the perpetrator was never apprehended. Until he was spotted on google maps- with his dog having a squat on the pavement. The screenshot was uploaded to said Facebook page, and despite his face being blurred out, he was immediately recognised. The post got deleted as his wife came on and said he picked it up blah blah, the rest wasn’t theirs and it turned into an absolute bun fight, but funnily enough, that was the end of Poo-Gate 😬

You can go back in time by clicking on the previous photos at the bottom of the page. Easier on a laptop though

Thanks for that!! ❤️

I’ve just looked at my late grandmother’s beautiful house that three generations of our family lived in at different times, and kind of wish I hadn’t. There’s a skip in the driveway. The new owners have ripped out the traditional windows and door, have built a loft extension, have put a trampoline in the garden and have dug up the lovely rose garden at the front and replaced it with plain (overgrown) turf. I bet they’ve ripped out all the original art deco features too Sad

I didn’t have any success spotting me or anyone I know, even going back through the years.
