What are these fly things?!

Appear more at night but then refuse to leave in the day and hang about on the ceilings. Or buzzing annoyingly past my ear
Not fruit flies, too big for those I think
Google is not helping

Looks like a small mosquito to me - I would expect it to bite, anyway

Also any ideas how to get rid? There aren't loads but maybe 4 in the living room and a couple in the bedroom
If I get rid of these, there will be 10 more back tonight

Looks like what we call bobbing gnats. They're harmless.

They also buzz, the wings probably which is why I want rid as they're annoying me when I sleep

They only live a couple of days, so try keeping the windows shut when you can. Annoying, granted, but they often come in after dark.
