Pestered by private health insurance people, I only wanted a quote.

After some not so great experiences with the NHS over the past few years I've been giving some thought to private health care. I did a cursory Google which brought up a website offering to give you quotes from all of the well known ones, AXA(?) Vitality, Bupa. Etc. I had no intention of signing up for anything and only wanted some info for the time being.

I filled in the short form expecting to see the quotes there and then but nope, a pop up saying a representative will be in touch shortly. Great.

A well spoken chap called me the next morning asking a few questions for the purpose of getting a quote and said there was no obligation to sign up now. I explained that I'm currently having treatment with the NHS for an existing condition so wouldn't be looking to take out a policy right now anyway and only wanted to know the numbers

The man has not stopped calling. He has left a voicemail and re-sent an email twice.

I had my DH answer the phone on two occasions to see whether it was him or somebody else and upon hearing that it was him he simply hung up.

The man called again today and I reiterated that I do not want to take out a policy right now, then he wants to know when I'd be thinking of taking one out.

Well I'm not now, not through him anyway.

What the hell is that about? Is that the norm? Does he rely on commission?

oh god, I once did an online quote with Sunlife, they rang me around 8 times a day for bloody ages, it went on for months until one day I just snapped and shouted at them to stop ringing me, I am not interested. 🙄

Had you put your details into money super market or similar? I had done this and had the same experience as you and I asked to be removed from their dialler list and they did stop contacting me then!

Was a "tele broker" and yes they do work on commission, tellingly if your being hammered with contact now it's likely end of month trying to get last sales on the board!

This is why the moment any site says “give us your details we’ll call you” I click the close button.

I've had this - the easiest way to get rid of them is to lie about your medical condition.

So yes, you've had cancer
You've got aids
You drink 60 units a week
You smoke 60 ciggies a day
You weigh 30 stone
you've got high blood pressure
you've got high chloresterol
you've got diabeties
your getting kidney dialysis

etc etc etc

They'll stop
