Manual after automatic

Getting a promotion at work, which is good, I have to go do a drivers assessment before getting insured on company vehicles and it’s manual. Not driven a manual for two years. Would you hire a manual for a day and tootle around in it, getting all the potential gear crunches/ embarrassing stalls out the way first?

If it makes a difference I’m in a very male industry and would be hearing about it forevermore if I made an arse of it.

If you have Zipcar near you you could join that to sort out a very short hire. They are good for small vans too so the membership might come in handy.

I recently changed to automatic after decades of driving a manual, I did worry I’d lose my skills. The auto is so lovely to drive though, it’s a risk I am glad I took.

Bit of a wasteland as far as car clubs are concerned and a rental seems very expensive £80 for a day! I think a driving lesson seems the way to go. I'd feel really cheeky booking a test drive.
