Because changing the oil in the car and shovelling snow is 2 jobs and doing all the washing and cooking is 2 jobs that means they are equal.

Offer to swap and see what happens then.

KaySararSarar · 29/09/2023 08:58

Brilliant OP! I do all the washing and DH acts like we’re equal partners as he cuts the grass/gardens. I explained to him he cuts the grass 15 a year max > and asked how much washing does he think is done in a year.

I don’t do any of his washing now.

The poor man sounds very overworked. I do hope you made him a cuppa while he was slaving away.

I would take washing and cooking over shovelling snow any day. That actually sounds fine to me??

Swap jobs

OnAir · 29/09/2023 09:05

I don't know where I stand because I do it all including the car maintenance...I take pride in it actually that he knows and I know that I don't actually need him for anything I just like to have him.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/09/2023 09:08

I agree. Every time he puts oil in the car or shovels snow, you should immediately get up and spend the same amount of time cooking or washing.

When you've done this, stop until the next time he does these tasks, and then repeat.

If it was a choice between washing and cooking or shovelling every single day then that would be a fair comparison.

The point the op is making is that you can't compare tasks you only have to do once a year (if that!) to tasks that have to be done multiple times every single day and say that's equal.

The "boy job" that always gets trotted out here is "doing the bins". If you listened to some posters it's akin to the labours of hercules in terms of brute strength needed and scrubbing a post-festival portaloo in terms of cleanliness, not to mention the time it takes.

Whereas I, a five foot nothing woman seem to spend about five mins max a week doing the whole job with ease. So in no way comparable to doing all the washing for a household or cleaning a kitchen or anything other than another very easy one-off job.

For clarity in case anyone hasn't seen it-this isn't my life I'm talking about!! It's an internet meme. It started as Girl Math-if a dress is in the sale at 50% off and you buy 2 then one is free. This is the Boy equivalent.

So they're both nonsense based on tired sexist stereotypes.

CurlewKate · 29/09/2023 10:04

@BarbaraofSeville Sadly, ten minutes on Mumsnet will show you that Boy Math is alive and well and living amongst us.
