Help me lie to my family!!

Nerdynerdynerd · 29/09/2023 08:34

I'm 4 weeks pregnant and have a family night away in a few weeks time. There's a hot tub and I don't want to take the risk of getting in it, I also don't want to tell them that soon!

If I "forget" my costume one of my sisters or aunts will lend me one, so that's out!

Hideous toenail infection?
Newly developed phobia of hot tubs?
Weird flaky skin condition over just the covered parts of my body?

You had a stomach bug a few days before and still feel a bit iffy. Your stomach is still off so you can’t drink either.

AnxiousAnnabel · 29/09/2023 08:36

Horribly heavy period? Verrucas? Pick something gross and TMI!

WandaWonder · 29/09/2023 08:39

No one is getting me near a hot tub pregnant not so just say you don't want too

Just tell them that you don't want to get in.

SoupDragon · 29/09/2023 08:43

TBH, I don't think anyone who knows you well will be fooled.

Cheeesus · 29/09/2023 08:44

Would you normally be drinking? If so, I’m inclined to think it’ll be obvious.

Squash24 · 29/09/2023 08:44

Set your stall out early (day or two before) of having a really bad tummy. Maybe even that you got food poisoning. So you’d rather no alcohol and don’t wanna risk the tub

Yip!

Mistandmellowfruitfullness · 29/09/2023 08:45

Heavy period and ABs which are giving you the squits.
They'll probably guess though if you're not drinking

CurlewKate · 29/09/2023 08:45

Why is a hot tub a problem and a bath not?

TidyDancer · 29/09/2023 08:46

I couldn't be paid to get into a hot tub but there's no way you'll be able to successfully lie all weekend anyway. People always know!

MyEyesMyThighs · 29/09/2023 08:46

Big plaster on your leg you need to keep dry?

This. Unfortunately, it's one of the first things that come to mind for people. If you go, I think you should expect that people will figure it out - although hopefully nobody would be rude enough to ask.

If you really don't want anyone to know yet, find an excuse not to go at all.

RampantIvy · 29/09/2023 08:52

I agree that people will figure it out anyway.
I'm not pregnant and I would just say I don't like hot tubs and I'm not getting in one.

Nerdynerdynerd · 29/09/2023 08:53

I don't really drink, maybe once or twice a year if we have a wedding, i dont even drink at Christmas and never at family get togethers, so no one will expect a thing because of that!

Tummy bug 24 hours before, - not sure you’ll be able to make it! Can’t keep anything down, feel like death…

Then “drag yourself” there but sit out the hot tub, the booze and eat very little the first night and turn in a bit early. Your other half can help. You can ramp up the eating and fun but the thought of [your preferred drink] turns your stomach still, try it but have to give to your DH or someone else.

Why is a hot tub a problem and a bath not?

A hot tub goes to higher temps and is more sustained so there's more chance of the embryo overheating and neural defects.

Nerdynerdynerd · 29/09/2023 08:55

@LightDrizzle

Ooh I like your style! Setting the scene the day before!

@LovelaceBiggWither Blimey-how hot is your hot tub!

Nerdynerdynerd · 29/09/2023 08:56

@LovelaceBiggWither

Thank you for explaining because I didn't know why either I just know its a big no!

Also expains any morning sickness.

RampantIvy · 29/09/2023 08:58

I'm not keen on the tummy bug idea. If I was going away with a group of people and one of them said they had a tummy bug I would want them to stay away.

Just say you don't like hot tubs. It isn't difficult.

DD went to NYE party a couple of years ago, and she was the only one who didn't get in the hot tub, but she was fine with that because she just didn't want to. She sat on the edge of it with her drink and chatted to everyone.

autienotnaughty · 29/09/2023 09:01

Water infection making you sore so do nt want to make it worse also can say on antibiotics so not drinking

TGGreen · 29/09/2023 09:02

Will it really be that obvious? You don't drink so that won't be noticeable. I never go in the hot tub. No one suspects pregnancy because it's something I don't do. I've been asked but a simple no and that's it. I know loads of people that think of them as chlamydia soup when not privately owned. It's never everyone in at the same time anyway so I'd just read or be busy with others. No one even mentions it.

Babybo4 · 29/09/2023 09:04

I have used a hottub while being pregnant and its been ok, you just need to consider these guidelines and at your own risk. As long the jets are not set too high pressure settings or if there is a seat without jets plus have to consider the temperature ,make sure its not too high in body temp.
