I think I have a sugar addiction…

I am addicted to sweet things or anything that has sugar. Every night I sit and eat a sharing bag or bar of chocolate.

How do I stop?

So. I eat the double amount of that 🤷‍♀️

ChocAuVin · 28/09/2023 19:56

i’m sorry, OP, this is absolutely not what you want to hear… The only, only thing that stopped me was complete cold turkey.

I tried all kind of bargaining techniques with myself but none worked. When I don’t have sugar, I don’t crave sugar. Simple (but desperately hard).

Same

But I had my HbA1c blood test done and it was raised.

The GP referred me to Second Nature ( an app the NHS pays for).

It looks at what makes us eat crap. I have lost 7lbs in 5 weeks. Haven't eaten chocolate for the 5 weeks.

But... I have just come back from my cousins funeral and I have eaten a bowl of porridge with a good spoon of sugar in. I am now in bed feeling 🥺.

Like you I would eat a bar of chocolate a day ( big dairy milk) and tbh I don't think I actually enjoyed it.

And I agree with cold Turkey!

Doesn't sound a lot to me. And it's no big deal

SnapdragonToadflax · 28/09/2023 20:04

Cold turkey is easiest, I think.

I've just given up this week. I don't even like sugary things very much (except chocolate, which I love), I just eat them because I crave them.

I'm not actually craving sugar anymore, but I feel like something is missing. It's very weird.

WombatBombat · 28/09/2023 20:07

I’ve been eating more protein recently and have found that I don’t crave sugar as much.

I’ve got from a chocolate bar every night to maybe 2 a week.

Firstly cut it out of stand alone snacks, as these will spike your blood sugar most. Only have a dessert after your main meal, when your glucose has already raised a little, but you have protein and fibre to help absorb the sugar spike, then gradually swop desserts for fruit and yoghurt.

Also 20-30g protein a meal will keep you fuller and more satiated.

I was prediabetic now all good.

I agree cold turkey is best, if you eat a lot of carbs you might need to cut right back on them too.
