What will happen to house prices over the next 3-5 years if Labour get in?

Just pondering how the last time they got in coincided with huge growth in house prices. Would we be likely to see the same again?

Why did they go up last time? What did labour do to encourage that?

I doubt it. House prices are controlled by supply and demand. The only way demand will increase is if houses become more affordable. The Bank of England control base rate, not the government. The only way the government can influence is support more help to buy initiatives.

No. conditions are very different now to 1997.

Having said that, I certainly don't think prices will fall (in any long term sense). Shoring up the asset values of middle class and retired property-owners is now the No.1 objective of both parties and the first thing that will be secured before considering any other areas of policy.
