Basically that. Am I reading it right? There no free flu jab for over 50s this year, but I can still book and pay for one?

You can book into a pharmacy and pay.

MattDamon · 28/09/2023 14:56

We booked online with Tesco. Was £13 each.

MaidOfSteel · 28/09/2023 15:05

We're still getting them in Scotland.

One of the few good things I have to say about this place lol.

Yes you can still book and pay for flu jab at a pharmacy, but not the Covid one .

Talisin · 28/09/2023 16:12

Correct. If you have a Superdrug Health and Beauty card you can get it done in store for £8.79 though - that was the best deal I found.

saltnsaucey · 28/09/2023 16:30

In England, not the case in Scotland

aintnospringchicken · 28/09/2023 16:33

I'm in Scotland and had my free flu vaccination yesterday.I'd got an e mail a few weeks ago inviting me to make an appointment.

Damn, good deal! Jealous I went with Tesco now.

enjoyingscience · 28/09/2023 20:08

You could ask your employer for one - some will give them as a perk (mine does)

Nowaysunshine · 28/09/2023 20:11

I'm 67 and had mine yesterday at doctors - free

megletthesecond · 28/09/2023 20:12

No. The nurse who did mine said that they've reverted back to pre-covid thresholds and it's back to over 60's now.
I paid for my flu jab in Boots as I'm 49, it was £18.

megletthesecond · 28/09/2023 20:13

No, as in not free for over 50's anymore.

Daffodilwoman · 28/09/2023 20:14

When i looked online it said you had to be 65 plus to get it free.
Crazy as this affects the working population.

Soverytiredtoday · 28/09/2023 20:15

In England it’s reverted to pre-covid cohorts: 65 and over and patients considered at risk, & carers & people who live with immunocompromised people.

Daffodilwoman · 28/09/2023 20:15

It was free fir over 50s last year.

DontGiveMeThatOldCrap · 28/09/2023 20:15

I'm 64, in England, and have been invited to have a flu jab (free)

PurplePi · 28/09/2023 20:17

Had one today at the same time as a Covid booster- am 56 and it was free.

I guess I qualified under “all those living with someone who has lowered immunity due to disease or treatment

SirChenjins · 28/09/2023 20:20

Depends where you are in the UK. Free in some parts and not others.

Edited

I did too but presumably the fact that you had a Covid booster means that you qualify for one regardless of age because of other conditions.

Asda was always cheapest when I paid for it. I’m well under 50 and having mine at the GP in a week. Invitation came weeks ago. No idea why other than I have a baby, is that a qualifying criteria?

They may still have you down as pregnant, so qualifying for a free one. I got one the winter after I had my second due to this.

I get one free as I'm a carer. I had it last week.

megletthesecond · 28/09/2023 20:27

Actually, I had a covid booster today as my DD receives DLA and the nurse asked me if I wanted a flu jab at the same time. I think I count as a carer now.

I got called in to GP as well and I haven't just had a baby and under 50. Still a bit stumped to why.

wendywoopywoo222 · 28/09/2023 20:31

I had a message to book flu and covid free and I'm 57.

Primproperpenny · 28/09/2023 20:32

Just pay for one if you want one. It’s less than a tenner. You’d spend more than that on medicine if you got flu! Maybe it’s not right that you now have to pay, but I couldn’t get upset about something I could remedy at any local supermarket or pharmacy for such a small amount.
