Basically that. Am I reading it right? There no free flu jab for over 50s this year, but I can still book and pay for one?

My surgery isn’t top notch at record keeping so that may be why. Are you having it gamer?

Asda was always cheapest when I paid for it. I’m well under 50 and having mine at the GP in a week. Invitation came weeks ago. No idea why other than I have a baby, is that a qualifying criteria?

No it's not.
You may have been called because you were coded as pregnant and may find you're not eligible when you get there having had the baby!

I've had it. Not going to turn down a flu jab, even if it did knock me on my arse. I'm assuming there's an evil flu or 3 predicted or something.

I'm 53 and thought I wouldn't get one, then I received a text from my GP asking me to book an appointment as I'm vulnerable. That's news to me, but I'm not arguing with them....

I also got a covid jab, I filled in the online form and ticked that I'm a carer (I am, for my dad, but the surgery/NHS don't have it on record) and was offered an appointment two days later. I thought they might ask for proof, but he just checked who I was and jabbed me.

smallshinybutton · 28/09/2023 20:50

I paid for mine, no problem, its about the same price as a prescription charge

Chewbecca · 28/09/2023 20:51

I'm 50 and have been invited for one by my GP. England. Not vulnerable (as far as I know!).

Daffodilwoman · 28/09/2023 20:52

My local Boots are charging £19.95!
I won’t be going there.

Dibblydoodahdah · 28/09/2023 20:53

I’m in my 40’s and get one because I have asthma. However, this year I am also getting the COVID booster for the first time as a “vulnerable” person. I have no idea why the GP has decided that I now fit the criteria!

Yeah, mine was fairly miserable this time as well, as was my mum’s. I haven’t had a reaction other than a slightly sore arm in previous years so I wondered if this years strain was particularly nasty.

MrsDrDear · 28/09/2023 20:56

I had one today, nurse offered me one in GP surgery as I was there for BP check up.
England mid 50s.

Side eyes everyone taking the Flu jab👀

I think there's 4 strains in it or something isn't there? I'm sure I read something. Past couple of years it was just a sore arm. This year I wanted to rip it off and stick it in the freezer for a bit felt properly grotty for a couple of days.

And? The last time I had flu I prayed for death. Horrendous experience crawling to the bog.

So yes, the flu jab is a 1+ 1 thing. Only a total divvy would knock it back.

I'm 64, in England, and have been invited to have a flu jab (free)

I imagine you are 65 before 31/3/24 as that's cut off point.

One of the criteria is pregnant on 1/9/23. Is it a young baby?

MistressoftheYoniverse · 28/09/2023 21:40

If you don't get what and why I'm saying this it's ok😊

SirChenjins · 28/09/2023 21:42

Can you explain what you meant please @MistressoftheYoniverse ?

It'll be some conspiracy theory reason, I expect.

MrsMarzetti · 28/09/2023 21:47

I am mid 50s and had my free jab yesterday in the village hall.

ThickSkinnedSoWhat · 28/09/2023 21:49

I'm under 50 and I pay every year. Its hardly a bank breaking amount if you really want the vaccine.

Whapples · 28/09/2023 21:50

I was offered the flu jab and covid vaccine today when at a doctor appointment for something else? And I’m not in any kind of vulnerable group and under 30?

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/09/2023 21:52

I got mine free for the first time this year

Was 50 in July

I usually pay £14 for it as a maternity nurse so have to as work with little vulnerable premature babies /newborns

edited to say im in England

Coffeepot72 · 28/09/2023 21:53

DH and I are in our 50s, we paid to have our flu jabs at Asda earlier in the week. I really wish we could have a covid jab too, but we’re not old enough

6 months. Wonder if they’ll change their minds when I get there. There have been supply issues I think, mum’s 70 and her appointment was postponed as they weren’t going to get it in time.
