Assuming the angle of the floor and the wall is a right angle, you want to look at Pythagorus. The square of the hypotonuse (the line opposite the right angle/support 1) is equal to the sum of the square of the other two sides.

1.1x1.1 = 1.21
0.9+0.9 + 0.81
0.81+1.21 = 2.02
Square root of 2.02 is 1.42 so the length of support 1 is 1.42 (I think!)

Sorry 0.9X0.9 = 0.81

Why did you do someone's homework for them instead of just explaining how they could do it themselves? This isn't a children's homework site!

Hopefully not, the child should do their own homework or ask their teacher for help. You're totally making the homework pointless by giving them the answer.

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 28/09/2023 14:19

Because I needed to show the working out to make sure I was getting it right (I hope) in my head!

MathsTeacherandLoveit · 28/09/2023 15:59

I would hope that anyone who would log onto MN and ask for help with their HW would be interested in working out how to find the answer so would look at that solution and check they understand it, isn't that right @viscountbarbara43 ?
OP I know you said it's a trig Hw but if you see a right angled triangle, with no other angle mentioned, then you need pythag and not trig. Always look for pythag first.
