I mean why. Why would someone do that.

What an absolutely awful thing to do.

I'm sorry, but what is Sycamore Gap?

Hopelesslydevotedtoshrews · 28/09/2023 11:37

Hadrian's wall?

Bellabluea · 28/09/2023 11:39

It’s all over my FB feed as a north easterner.
So angry about this. People are trash.

Fallingthroughclouds · 28/09/2023 11:39

So sad 😔

Houseplanter · 28/09/2023 11:39

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 28/09/2023 11:39

What arseholes! Sad

VenusInfers · 28/09/2023 11:40

Utterly utterly shit. 🙁

HellNoBedBug · 28/09/2023 11:41

I didn’t know what this was until I clicked on the link, but that is properly sad. I don’t know why you would do that. Can never be an accident.

DeathRattleDazzle · 28/09/2023 11:41

What in the name of fuck! Why?!

saltnsaucey · 28/09/2023 11:46

I’m not saying this is right but there was a little sycamore tree right next to it, which was presumably planted to take it’s place eventually?

Itsacakebaby · 28/09/2023 12:21

So sad.

Why the hell would someone do that 😡 - utter scum of the earth.

Comefromaway · 28/09/2023 12:24

I'd never heard of it but just looked at the link and I am aghast. I hope they catch whoever did this.

DotStripe · 28/09/2023 12:26

Apparently there was a storm last night, could it have been natural? I don't see any sawdust around it.

Honeyroar · 28/09/2023 12:27

What a bloody shame. Why would someone do that? Is it far to walk to? Someone has dragged a power saw there.

SoftKittyBazinga · 28/09/2023 12:27

What!!!! No way!!! That’s such a special place to me and now we’re further away I don’t go very much but I have art and photography of that spot al over my home!

The photo shows a completely straight saw cut through a thick trunk. Only possible with a machine. No way natural

It’s too clean a cut. In wind the whole tree goes over and you see the roots. The sawdust will have blown away.

carddino · 28/09/2023 12:29

The police and relevant people have confirmed it was NOT the wind. It WAS vandalism

CatamaranViper · 28/09/2023 12:30

There's a thread about this in AIBU.

Definitely not storm damage!

The storm was not that bad!! My bin didn't even blow over.

LivLongAndProsper · 28/09/2023 12:31

Some people are vile.
See also, the great British pastime of tree felling.

IslaWinds · 28/09/2023 12:32

FGS that is criminal. Poor tree.

PearlRuby · 28/09/2023 12:32

Why are the bbc reporting this as a tree which was “felled”. I assumed this was planned by the forestry commission after reading that! Vandals don’t fell trees, they hack them down.
