Norwich/Cambridge - friends or rivals?

My DP and I have been thinking about taking a trip to Norwich/Norfolk sometime and it's got me thinking about whether Norwich has a rivalry with Cambridge. I know they are relatively close together and both attract tourists, but I'm not really aware of a rivalry between the two. Is there one and, if so, is it friendly?

Not at all. It's Cambridge vs The Other Place (aka Oxford) and Norwich vs Ipswich!

I've lived in both and neither place is that much on the radar of the other. They are in different counties too.

No, not between Norwich and Cambridge, I think they're a bit far apart really. There's lighthearted rivalry around Norfolk vs Suffolk and a football rivalry between Norwich and Ipswich.

I was thinking along those lines but they are kind of near by East Anglian standards :)

I think Cambridge is barely aware that Norwich exists.

@GingerPanda Ah yes, I've heard "the other place" being used the other way around, i.e. an Oxfordian referring to Cambridge.

Definitely Ipswich v Norwich. I cannot imagine Ed Sheeran has many fans in Norwich.

I've heard of the Ipswich/Norwich thing...it's kind of funny because they're probably not so different as people.

I grew up in Ipswich and the rivalry was definitely Norwich Ipswich.

I used to work at the medical school in Norwich (at UEA) and there was definitely a bit of an awareness about Cambridge med school, in that Norwich prided itself on being more progressive, less stuffy than Cambridge. I also used to work in Cambridge and there was a bit of snobbery about Norwich/everywhere else not being as good as Cambridge. That was quite a niche perspective though!

I was born and raised in one and now live and work in the other. There’s nothing apart from a mild admiration for each of the cities. Cambridge folk like that Norwich is a more liberal, laid-back, arty place, and Norwich folk like Cambridge’s international reputation, innovation etc (but feel it’s a bit too expensive for them to live there). As others have said, there are lots of people passing through Cambridge, and to them Norwich doesn’t really register. The attitudes I’m referring to are from long-term residents/locals. The animosity is indeed Cambridge/Oxford and Norwich/Ipswich. Norwich and Ipswich are very different by the way!
