That's exactly why I didn't google @SirSamVimesCityWatch . Although I should say @Thedrownedprophet has clarified that it's only her own pigs she is making this claim about, not all pigkind.

BabyStopCryin · 04/10/2023 13:56

Her pigs weren’t brainwashed in a cult. Obviously.

My sisters friend lived in a farm with pigs. She said they were vicious (and large) buggers who used to chase her.

The 48 is suggestion - I suspect quite a few people would have "randomly" thought of 48 as there would have been subtle signage in the foyer, and mentions of it a few times - https://secrets-explained.com/derren-brown/card-suggestion

Also I think it's likely that you can see any 'sign' once you're aware of it.

So if she'd chosen 15, she would have seen it on a bus, or somewhere else.

Prrambulate · 04/10/2023 15:08

The Baader-Meinhof phenomenon?

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 04/10/2023 17:45

The pigs in the movie Snatch definitely ate humans.

You must remember 'feed 'em to the pigs Errol'

StartupRepair · 04/10/2023 21:22

I couldn't put this down. The cult stuff was so disturbing and believable. The box was very upsetting. I loved how Strike cared for Robin on her escape, knowing not to make her relive every detail immediately.

KillingMeDeftly · 04/10/2023 21:52

Not quite RTFT but am I the only one who thought Becca would turn out to be Daiyu? And that there had been a swap so the real Becca could be sacrificed by the Waces to create the myth of the Drowned Prophet?

Yes I thought this too. And that Phillipa and Nicholas were somehow involved as well! I never guess the endings though so thought I was probably wrong. 😅
I just downloaded it on Audible so am going to have a re-read. I'm guessing it will be at least a year until the next release. I was wondering how they're going to adapt TIBH to TV given all the forum stuff going on.

StartupRepair · 04/10/2023 23:03

I will need to reread it shortly to unpack all the plot and people. I was so scared when Robin went into the temple at the end. Love Pat and Dennis. I thought Bijou was a tad one dimensional. JK often throws very shallow women at Strike. Agree we need to keep differentiating Ryan from Matthew.
Wish Strike had said 'Charlotte spotted that I AM in love with you' and removed all ambiguity.

Hollyhead · 04/10/2023 23:05

@KillingMeDeftly yes I thought that too!

JustKen · 05/10/2023 08:00

Feed him to the Pigs Errol! From the film Snatch. That was my education about how they eat EVERYTHING.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 05/10/2023 08:11

I once went to a wedding on a farm. The farmer (bride's family) was very clear about guests not wandering through any gates in case of accidental pig eating!

Danielle2500 · 05/10/2023 13:15

Wow what a book! I thought nothing will top Troubled blood, but here we are - to me, this is the best so far. A masterpiece.

I have a question though, has Abigail made up their punishment of living with the pigs for 3 days? If so, what did they do to Brian to make his illness worse?

BREAKING NEWS

The Running Grace is free with Spotify premium.

I'm cross because I bought the kindle edition and THEN bought the audio book on audible so I could listen again.

But for those of you also tempted.

There’s a review in Pink News by a nonbinary person who thought the same thing & got quite cross about it.

tribpot · 05/10/2023 14:25

But presumably this person felt that those views do not represent a cult so it's kinda all good?? In any case, I think a lot of those characteristics are shared by many cults, a number of parallels with Heaven's Gate, for example.

Adherence of unintelligent but well meaning minor celebs

Im sure Noli was inspired by Emma Watson.

Noli was blind to the suffering and reality of spirit bonding on other members.

Wow fruitstick that's great, it looks like all the Strike books are there.
I wish I hadn't used an Audible credit for TRG now too but will enjoy going back and listening to the earlier books which I only know through the TV series.

fruitstick · 05/10/2023 17:36

@DesdamonasHandkerchief you can 'return' audible and get a credit. You can't do it too often but you might be able to get it back.

If you look at audible on your laptop at purchase history, it will tell you if you're eligible to return.

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 05/10/2023 17:37

Thanks, I'll give it a go 👍

Hollyhead · 05/10/2023 20:17

@LongLizStridesAgain I hadn't thought about it like that but I completely agree.
