Amitriptyline for sciatica?

Can anyone who's been prescribed amitriptyline for sciatica tell me what it's like? Been given it today and the side effects look bloody awful but if it's worth it, I'll try it!

Just coming back to report that as of yesterday the pain has completely gone- I don't know if it's a coincidence, or what, but I haven't been pain free in a good 8 years.
I am sweaty in the mornings though!

Gave me the best sleep I've had in years. Not sure how much it helped the sciatica though. Good luck.

I took a mild dose for arthritis and insomnia. Helped with insomnia but had a depressive effect (and I'm the most optimistic person you could meet). So I came off it and wouldn't go back on.

Wow that's wonderful, so happy for you! It might work well for you, everyone is different. Hope it lasts!

It is pretty good but didn't remove all the pain; but better than opiates

@Atmytethersend can I ask how long it took you to work up to 150mg? Did you start lower? I’m on 50mg for nerve pain but considering going higher because I’m not seeing effective results, I was originally on 10mg but had a relapse with my nerve pain.

The doctor increased every two weeks until I was on 150mg. I started at 10 too but was on that for a couple of months first. Then it went to 20, 50, 75, 150. Hope this helps

@Atmytethersend thanks for your response! How long after the 2 weeks did you start to see results? I’m at my wits end & need some relief, seeing GP again this week!

Very quickly. It's a huge dose, but at the start I couldn't keep my eyes open on it, so that's probably why i felt it worked so well, as I was sleeping the clock round

Did you feel any relief before 150mg or it took that dose for your pain to go away? Sorry for all the questions, just good to speak with someone who has had experince with it… thank-you!

Yes I did feel relief but only with the 150mg dose . But like everything, over time,it stops working as well. No need to apologise for the questions. If I can help in any way I will
