Can anyone help me remember this toy?

I've tried my best to search online but so far can't find it.

It was a gift given to me in the late 90s as a child.
It was a cardboard box made to look like a book and when you opened it up it had a teddy bear inside. The book was red on one half and green or blue on the other. It has a gold clasp to close the book together.

Inside there was the bear. It was like a little house for him with a cardboard bed, table and wardrobe with cardboard clothes in.
I'm pretty sure the bear had two fabric outfits, one being pajamas.

I think he had a min bookshelf with teeny books on that you could turn the pages.

I'd really like to remember what it's called and see if I can find something similar for my dc.

We had a similar book called Goodnight Freckles around that time which was a zip up cloth book with detachable teddy. I think he had spare clothes and a miniature book within the book.

Toastie7 · 27/09/2023 10:50

Goodnight Teddy by Francesca Ferri seems to be a more modern equivalent

EVHead · 27/09/2023 10:58

Yes Goodnight Freckles - DD had it when she was little.

I remember I had a Jane Hissey book that had Little Bear in it. He had a pair of red shorts and pair of blue stripy pyjamas but I'm not sure what the rest of the book was like.

My sister had good night freckles! Such a cute book.

The one I'm thinking of wasn't actually a book. It was a box made to look like a book but had no actual pages. There were mini books inside you could look through.

Hi I’ve recently found myself looking for the name of the same toy/book. I had this when I was little and can’t remember the name of it but want to see if I can find it again. Did you ever find it by any chance?

Joebloggs12 · 08/10/2023 23:50

Teddy Ruxpin?

StrawCherry · 09/10/2023 08:27

Still haven't found it.

The book box it was in was smaller than a4 paper but bigger than a5. I'm pretty sure one of the teeny books inside was a recipe book. Another might have been a fairy tale book.

The teddy itself was about 6" tall.

Have you tried looking on ghostofthedoll.co.uk ?

GinadC · 18/07/2024 04:33

Hey,
sorry to drag an old thread up but did you ever find this?

Sodafarl · 18/07/2024 10:29

This is an old thread, but as soon as I read it, I had to reply! I have one of these, it still sits on my bookshelf. It's The Secret Life of Bears. Mine is all still intact- the bear, his clothes, little books, and notecards with mini envelopes, mini pencils etc. I still love looking at it every now and again!

Sodafarl · 18/07/2024 10:34

Bit faded but still there...

I like the Ted's ENORMOUS jar of honey! All ready for a midnight feast, presumably.

Laura95167 · 21/08/2024 20:22

I have it, it was called the secret life of bears

Could you show us inside?

YC88 · 16/03/2025 23:20

I’ve been on the hunt for this! I would love to
see inside the recipe book. I remember there being a really good honey biscuit recipe

I had this too 🥰 absolutely loved it. How wonderful that you kept it all these years

@Sodafarl wow! thank you for sharing a pic, this has completely took me back to my childhood as I had this book too! Would you mind taking a pic of the pages in the mini recipe book please? It’s something I’ve been looking for for such a long time and me and my sister were teyinf to recall the warm milk recipe but I’m sure there were some others.

hello - I’ve just signed up to mumsnet (I am not a mum!) because yet again, I found myself trawling the internet for this exact toy. I asked Reddit. I asked ChatGPT. I’ve been trying to find it for years. YEARS. And I don’t know why but tonight I decided to try again and I found this thread. I’m now crying in the bath because you incredible ladies gave me the name of my favourite toy as a kid, and PICTURES!! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart - I am amazed that I didn’t imagine it!!!
