Instagram to promote what I do

I have been living under a rock and I am not very computer and social media savvy. Recently I left my job of nearly 17 years to fully focus on my role as something I trained on whilst on that lowly paid job. I was wondering if I could have some pointers to start building an instagram profile that showcases me and what I do in my town.

To begin with, I have started following other business in my town. I feel a bit stumped when it comes to creating content though. I am an introvert and putting myself out there is an incredibly difficult thing for me to do. I also have impostor syndrome.

Any help/pointers would be very much appreciated. Thanks so much!

Congratulations on changing career!

You've started following other local businesses, which is great. Have a look at what hashtags they are using and search for that hashtag to see how others use it. That could give you some good ideas for content!

Pictures of your set up would be a good start, if you have a price list then you could possibly share that.

Upload a mixture of content - reels (use 'trending' audio if you feel it's appropriate for your vibe), still images, multi image posts.

Post stories regularly - they don't have to be your face, you can literally share regular posts to your stories.

Make sure you hashtag everything.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Good luck! :)

@MariePaperRoses and @Stephisaur, thank you both, that's helpful.

So I have followed hundreds of local business and people, but so far I only have like 75 followers, so should I wait to have more before I post anything?

In terms of posting something, is there a template I can use, something with a simple colour theme, border, etc that I can use for most posts?

Sorry I feel this sounds so basic!

Get a Canva account.

Agree some colours you like to use and stick with them

Canva have thousands of templates, change to your colours, your content.

Be consistent with posting, just be experimental you don't know what will work for you yet

Good luck

Start posting, if you scroll to the bottom of a few creators feeds, you will see that their content is much less polished when they started.

Canva Free is really useful.

If you're uncertain, start with images of what you do, and just describe what's in the picture, then over time try to find your own voice, that you're comfortable writing in.

Consistency is key, just keep posting, and have some posts prepped or scheduled for days when you just have no inspiration!
Good luck🍀
