Anyone else using Go Student and finding it all a bit frustrating?

So, I'll start by saying I really like the tutors but I'm finding the infrastructure to be rubbish. I used to really like it when all the communicating between tutor / us was via Whattsap but since they've updated so all goes via the app it's really gone downhill. The chat function on the app doesn't even work (when I spoke them about this they are aware there's a problem but don't seem to be able to do anything about it). I've been trying to book lessons with tutors but I can't see if they've even seen the requests and I'm having to re request but still can't see any updates. I get random texts to say I have lessons starting but I have nothing booked. It takes ages to get hold of an actual human.

Anyone else and has anyone found a solution to any of the above?

Operating under a pseudonym here, because the company is as vindictive as hell towards any current tutors speaking out. They get most bad reviews deleted from TrustPilot, for example, because they demand your email address if you leave one. No tutor is prepared to do that.

Please, I am currently a Maths tutor with GoStudent, I have been for a year.

The company is being run into the ground by greed on the part of the management. Tutors' wages are appalling (they'll charge you about 30 quid for just 50 mins for tutoring, of which the tutor gets just 13. Almost a 60% commission!)

The company has also just removed most of the bonuses that good tutors could once receive, we're even now expected to do ALL trial lessons entirely unpaid.

The communication between tutors and management is no better than you have found as a parent. You're right, WhatsApp communications have been removed, and they replaced it with their own "GoChat", which simply doesn't work. The old system of teaching over Zoom was also replaced with their own GoClass, which (especially if you use an iPad) also often doesn't work either.

When the tutors asked for a meeting with the company about pay last year, this was refused out of hand. We have also received no pay rise of any kind for two years, just constant removal of bonus schemes. The tutors feel undervalued, and are now starting a mass boycott of all trial lessons, starting in two days' time, in order to try and get some of these stupid and greedy decisions reversed.

I could say a lot more (such as about how they look to lock you into very long contracts) as someone who works for them, but I fear for my future work if I say too much here.

Go nowhere near this company. There are plenty of other tutoring platforms.

That’s really interesting and I had no idea about the trial lessons. I too struggle with the new go chat function it’s never worked for me.

Avoid avoid avoid. They kept taking payments out of my account, had to spend ages to the bank, GoStudent went AWOL not answering emails or WhatsApp, when I finally got thru to a person she was so rude and kept referring to their (fake) reviews on trust pilot. I've used First Tutor more successfully. But tbh have given up with online tutoring and now use a local tutoring firm and she has face to face lessons.

Hi Rachel, I've been looking into GoStudent but am worried about them taking more money than I can afford, did you manage to cancel your account with them or did they take money after your contract ended?

Has anyone had a terrible time with go student. Then when you try to cancel they don't contact you. They change things like charging you for pauses when tutors cancel. The tutors are very unreliable and we have had multiple tutors in a short space of time which is terrible for my daughters learning. They are very expensive. They take your money when you have said you no longer want the service. How is a company like this allowed to be linked with the school. They are terrible. They need to be stopped. It is like the pay down companies.

Has anyone else has dealing with this company.
I am trying to gather evidence against this company so something can be done to stop them .

Hi Sharon,

Look on trust pilot and you'll see lots of similar stories. What worked for me was commenting, negatively, on there, repeatedly. Nothing else seemed to work but this did and I eventually got my subscription stopped.

Good luck with it, Sharon: I'm an ex-tutor (thankfully) of GS, and everything is just turning into a money-making exercise for them. Usually quoting to your bank the word "fraud" also has an effect, I have been told! It'll all be AI-tutors shortly, that's their next project, and who the hell wants that for their child?

Ugh yes I’ve had issues with the app too, especially GoChat as it’s so glitchy sometimes. I’ve started messaging tutors directly during lessons to sort stuff quicker. Not ideal, but it helps.

I will say though, once you actually get the lessons booked, the tutoring side of things is still amazing. Hopefully they sort the tech soon because the teaching itself has been spot on for us. Would love to know if anyone’s found a good workaround too?

The whole platform feels like it’s built for their billing team, not for parents/tutors actually trying to schedule lessons.
