Tax for 2 jobs

Hello,

I have recently just gotten another job and am awaiting a start date . I’m not too sure how the tax will work .

At the moment my tax code is 1250L for my one job. I’m assuming I will get taxed 20% on the second job.

From Job 1 I will earn £2,265 per year
From Job 2 I will earn £6049 per year

Can my personal allowance of £12,500 be split between both jobs as I won’t earn above £12,500 from both jobs combined ? If so , do I ring HMRC and ask them to split the £12,500 evenly between the two jobs.

Yes, you need to contact the HMRC and they will split the tax code.

I worked with a lady who had two jobs and she did that.

whatever you are charged you will eventually get it back, but I’d make job2 your main job so you are taxed on job 1 not 2. Someone may have an even better idea.

They will split the tax code as you don't earn £12,500 per annum on either of the jobs.

Looks like 226L and 60L to me.

Phone them, it's easy for them to adjust. As you'll have some allowance left over, I suggest you split that between the jobs just be in case you do overtime or get paid for training.

Thank you , when I am closer to starting & properly on the system for the other job I will ring up and get them to split the allowance :)

That's not how it works.

I would probably ask for something like:

From Job 1 I will earn £2,265 per year - code 400L
From Job 2 I will earn £6049 per year - 850L

I'm not sure about the L bit so would need to check but a standard tax code is 1257L for £12,570 earning before tax.
