Where has this earring come from?

22yo DS1 just found it under the dining room table. It doesn't belong to his GF, who was here are the time. It doesn't belong to me, I've only recently had my ears pieced and own exactly 2 pairs. DS2 AFAIK has never had a girlfriend in the house. No one else lives here.

It was found with the butterfly back in place, so hasn't fallen out, it's a small pearl stud.

So how did it get there?

Attached to a bit of clothing?

although waiting for while the drip feed regarding your suspicions re your partner?!

Do you have DDs or other female relatives who have been in your house and may have dropped it?

Or have you bought any charity shop/ second hand clothing or handbags recently?

It's the sort of thing I would pop in my purse or a zipped pocket if I needed to take them out then would lose when I was rummaging for something.

It's reappeared from the void.

Come in on a pet?

Whataretheodds · 25/09/2023 16:19

Did it come off the bottom of someone's shoe?

One of your sons knows more than they are letting on

It could have fallen out of the pocket of any number of female guests. And I reckon it’s one of those things that could have fallen off a decade ago but somehow only just found it’s way into plain sight.

eta: or male guests I suppose!

From the same place that odd socks go to?

I have lost so many single earrings it is ridiculous, the back being on suggests it was put in a pocket, purse or bag at some point and then obviously forgotten or escaped.

Allmarbleslost · 25/09/2023 16:21

I expect my cat brought it in. She has form.

I have brought various things into the house in the ridges on the bottom of my trainers over the years, including an earring. We are a shoes-off house so they usually drop off in the porch when I take off my shoes, or are dragged off when I wipe my feet on the mat. Under the table is where feet go, so if you’re a shoes-on house, that could be where it came from.

Or fairies.

Or you husband is having an affair and they like doing it under the table.

The girl with the Pearl Earring?

Seychal · 25/09/2023 17:21

A part of a pearl necklace that has not dissolved into the carpet yet.
