Another: 'this date isn't going ahead, right?' thread

I know it's not going ahead. While I can see the humour in it I'm also a bit stung, so I'm posting here to help me to see the funny side more.

Was talking to a guy last week on an app. It was going well, he asked for a number. We chatted a bit and had one phone call to see if we liked the sound of each other. We did so arranged to meet - supposed to be happening tonight. We weren't both free at the same time over the weekend, so Monday it was.

We weren't texting a lot but it died off Friday night. I've had two 'hey, how are you?' texts since, but very different in tone to how it was before - interested, more conversational etc.

I was the last one to text yesterday and nothing since. I'd arranged a babysitter for tonight and just let her know it's likely not going ahead. We didn't arrange a place and definite time, but we had confirmed it was tonight.

So, I'm thinking I'll hear nothing today and then in a couple of days I'll get a vague 'was very busy text'. I'll be hugely surprised if he messages to confirm plans for tonight! I know he owes me nothing etc etc but the vanishing act is crap!

Yes, it sounds as though he has flaked. Sorry OP. Men can be so crap - I would say keep the babysitter and do something fun, but on a Monday night you might be better cutting your losses.

Did you set a time and place?

I had a date yesterday, arranged this time last week and didn't speak/text at all in between. We just both turned up where and when we agreed.... but we're old....

Thesheerrelief · 25/09/2023 10:17

No time and place. He was all, "I'll work around your schedule, I know you need to get a sitter etc." But we definitely agreed tonight.

I'm 42 so not a spring chicken. Yet still feeling a bit deflated.

@Widowsfire I hope your date went well?

Could it be that he’s waiting for you to confirm if/when you managed to arrange a sitter?
But if you’re feeling tells you he’s doing a disappearing act then this might be the case…so annoying, sorry x

It's my regular childminder so I had confirmed I was sorted with a sitter! Thank you for looking on the bright side though 😊
