To be annoyed at DS?

Hey all,

Am I being reasonable to be annoyed / wound up at DS(14) - since last week, he's decided that he no longer likes wearing socks - and has been going without (apart from to school where i've been insisting).

DS is a bit of a sneaker head - and we bought a few pairs for his birthday (including some Vans and nikes dunks) - he's been wearing these without socks as he says he finds them more comfortable and prefers the way it looks (with his ankles out)

Am I right to be annoyed - socks were always mandatory when I was younger and is good for hygiene? Is this some kind of new trend / style?

I honestly can't see why it would bother you?

I hate socks with a passion and only wear them when I need to. I can only see that he'll need to be careful with food hygiene - I've never had smelly feet but can imagine no socks might cause a problem then.

I'd be pretty annoyed if someone kept telling me I had to wear them 14 or not.

I know it's not a game of Top Trumps and never normally say 'if that's the worst' but honestly - if that's all he does to annoy you then I'd let him crack on.

Ew

Those invisible socks like tights are even worse.
Socks are just foul. Horrible sweaty foot condoms.
Honestly I can't bear them, regularly washed feet all the way for me.

OP, men have been doing this for years and years. How could you not know this?

neilyoungismyhero · 25/09/2023 17:57

I bet he takes his socks off as soon as he's left for school. I know I did!

When I was a teen we didn't wear socks with our trainers. We didn't fasten our laces either 😱. If he is anything like my DS he'll have outgrown his shoes before they smell anyway. Pick your battles OP.

The invisible socks that stay on have little silicone strips around the heel and they come all the way over the top of your foot. Not the mimsy piddling ones that are just like a little bag around the end of the toes.
I like ones made by Stance but I see that ASOS has stopped stocking them.

Foot spray is brilliant. It smells amazing and kills bacteria. It's dead cheap and easy to spray in the shoes after use. Trust me, I've got a brute of a mechanic as a DP and the smells that came out of his shoes were remarkable 😳

You can get socks even smaller than trainer socks!

Yeah they're murderous twisty awkward little things. No no.

Let him ruin his new kicks with his stinky feet. He will soon learn.

GeorgeBeckett · 25/09/2023 20:49

He doesn't need the stupid foot condoms (😂) made of tights if he's wearing trainers.
Low cut men's socks should do the trick! Can still be made of proper sock
material.

I'd buy him some in case and say you won't be replacing the nice trainers early if they are ruined because of smell. Then leave him to it.
