Really weird Amazon issue - anyone else?

Something really strange is going on with my Amazon and was wondering if it happened anyone else.

My last Amazon order was last week - all arrived fine.

I have a book on pre-order which is due to release Tuesday. Today I started getting a message that I needed to verify my payment information. Thought that was strange but changed payment cards (from debit card to credit card). The message kept coming up so I cancelled that order and re-ordered it using my credit card. Just got the message that my payment was declined! My cards are fine, last used my credit card Thursday, no where near my limit.

Think I’ll just cancel the order and buy at the bookshop but what is going on!!

Sorry if this is a basic question but you did change your details by going to the Amazon website independently and not clocking on a link?

Yes it was the Amazon website. There was actually a message on the the website before I got an email. And then I only got one email but the message kept appearing.

I get this nearly every month now for my subscribe and save orders. It's a right pain and seems to be because of two step verification processes. I normally have to go to the order and payment and choose my credit card again then I put the code that comes.

Always happens to me on book pre orders. Just buy it on release day and it works fine. No idea why

Please buy at your local independent bookshop instead! Mine is lovely, and I can go in and talk about books (they have read), get recommendations for books I've not yet read etc, always happy to order books in, and they are so helpful!

Well, that's all very well if you're lucky enough to have one like that. For many of us the choice is between a couple of high street retailers where one is not that interested in selling anything other than the latest bonkbusters and the other has staff that take it upon themselves to hide away books and authors they disagree with.
