Please help me find holiday childcare?

DCs primary school has changed their holiday dates so they now get a 2 week half term. The first week is the same as the Rest of the local area and then another week after that.

We were promised that the school would run a holiday club to cover this extra week so I didn’t make any arrangements but was waiting to book this. However the school now has a new head and the promised holiday club is not being run.

I am a teacher at another local school and have zero flexibility for taking off the second week. Likewise WFH is not an option. I work in a special school environment which is not appropriate to take them with me. DH has no more annual leave left ( we didn’t know we needed to save it for this).

I have 2 DCs and the only option I can find at the moment on the internet is 45 minutes away (in the opposite direction from our work) and 400 per child ( wish I was kidding) All the local holiday clubs are running the previous week… We have no family help and all my friends are stuck in the same boat…

Im beginning to thinkI will have to request parental leave to cover it? But is there another (affordable) option that I just haven’t thought of? Emergency nannies cost as much for 1 day as the proposed holiday club would have been for 1 week 😢.

please help I am really stuck and loosing sleeP over this.

If all your friends are in the same boat can you form a “holiday club” with 4 of them and each only take one day off and take it in turns to have all the kids?

Yes we are trying to sort something but those who have flexibility have mostly decided to do holiday clubs the first week and go away the second.. others are able to WFH but obviously aren’t able to take on other kids while they do so…

Can your DH take a week of unpaid leave? I did this once when the hassle of a long round trip in the wrong direction made it just not worth the stress. It'll only be once. So I'd suck up one off cost of lost pay.
