Any dentists about? My tooth fell out, worried about dry socket

My upper wisdom tooth fell out last night. I have periodontal disease and it had been very loose for some time - I was actually booked in to have it extracted in a few weeks. I've had a couple of extractions in the past due to infection but this is the first time I've lost a tooth naturally.

I was rinsing my mouth after eating and it just fell out. No pain, no blood. I believe the root came out intact too but of course I can't be 100% sure.

I'm with the dental school so will try and get an appointment tomorrow so they can take a look and make sure it's all out. But in the meantime I am very anxious about developing dry socket. Is that still a thing when a tooth falls out naturally or just with extractions? I'm doing saltwater rinses etc but it would be great to know it's not actually a worry!

Usually by the time they fall out the gum has pretty much grown over the socket wall so no bone is left exposed when it comes out.
It is likely to be absolutely fine but do use salt water mouth washes for a few days and maybe make an appointment with your dentist just to get it properly checked.

That sounds reassuring, thank you! I don't want to prod my tongue around in there and I can't see back there, so literally no idea what it's like! All I know is there has been no pain or blood.
