Help me remember this childrens programme

I saw this picture on a nostalgia thread on social media and it immediately brought up a vague memory of a children's programme from when I was very young...So early 90s, possibly late 80s but that doesn't feel right.

Memory is an image of a sunny farm kitchen with a horse or maybe a cow that comes up in the morning and sticks its head in through, I think, a stable door??

Think it must have been people in a suit like you got at pantomimes and think it was a woman who lived in the farmhouse.

Don't remember anything else but the 'memory' feeling is really strong!

Any ideas?

Dappledown Farm?

MrsHsGirl · 23/09/2023 22:34

Isn't this the cow that was in Asda?! You pushed the button next to him and he moo'ed

I was gonna go with dappledown farm

Wtfnowseptember · 23/09/2023 22:40

Definitely Rentaghost!!!

Watchkeys · 23/09/2023 22:42

Was it a program or an advert?

greyandwindy · 23/09/2023 22:42

This is definitely the Asda cow. I saw a video on tiktok about it earlier today and it triggered my memory.
You pressed the button and it "moo'd"

StBrides · 23/09/2023 22:45

Rentaghost finished years before I was born 😆

I think it must have been dappledown farm, the moment I read the words I thought it sounded right. Looked it up on YouTube though and don't recall anything about it - certainly right time period!

Yes the picture is of some cow in a supermarket but it reminded me of a children's programme I'd forgotten about.

But having watched a couple of clips, no wonder I've blocked it from memory! 😆

Dappledown farm was absolutely mad. It gave the impression of having been filmed in one under-rehearsed take with rogue puppeteers trying to put Brian Cant off his stride.

I used to watch it with baby DS in the early hours of the morning as there was nothing else on and became addicted. Columbus the cockerel was my favourite. Count ‘em count ‘em count ‘em.

They had this in Safeway as well! Also a chicken in the egg aisle, when you pressed the button it would start clucking 😂

StBrides · 23/09/2023 22:55

@IrresponsiblyCertainAboutSexualDimorphism I looked him up, he was related to fern brittan apparently

The Cockerell looked familiar I have to say - him and the name dappledown farm are really chiming but not the rest...If someone woke me up early morning to count (and then complained I was hard work to wake up) I'd be pissed!

Supermarkets are annoying enough without such things lol

🤣 So would I, but it’s a cockerel’s job to be up early!

Didn’t know he was related to Fern Brittan. Married to her sister apparently. He presented some 1970s children’s programmes - Play School and PlayAway - so was a household name for my generation.
