Is gorgeous the right word to use to describe food?

No different to saying ‘gorgeous weather’. Just means really lovely, pleasant etc.

It’a used in that context a lot and it’s not incorrect.

Interesting, I've never seen it used of food - whether that's because it isn't among my friends, who are all over 60, or because it's not used that way in Australia, I have no idea. I wouldn't use it, because it's more a visual reference to me and food doesn't come into that category afaic! 😄
