A few of mine are:

Sailing by Rod Stewart
Hold Me Close by David Essex
Who Loves You by The Four Seasons
I Only Have Eyes For You by Art Garfunkel

Plus a load of dreary autumn-themed school hymns and children's songs, e.g. The Rainbow Song (red and yellow and pink and green etc) and something about speckled frogs sitting on a speckled log eating delicious bugs. Probably taken from the Apusskidu songbook.

I remember a song about boats from a schools radio programme, must be at least 35 years ago but I still sing it to my DC!

'Yes, Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me so'.
The Paul McCartney frog song also reminds me of that time.

I remember vaguely (I was 4 so it’s all a bit muddled in my memory) a some about ‘January brings the snow’ and also ‘I’ve got a body a very busy body ‘ I think I was zoned out most of the time and these songs make me feel weird to remember (I have autism and adhd) if I think about them I can smell the smell of the school hall and remember that I felt as if I wasn’t really there, yet cold and a bit unsure if that was where I lived as I didn’t get the concept of school !!

I have no memories whatsoever of popular music when I was 4. I wonder if I'm unusual. I only have a few fragments of memory from that time. I remember the name of a girl a spoke to (but she probably became a friend for a few years) and that we did painting on easels on my first day.

Birdkin · 23/09/2023 19:26

Hi ho silver lining used to be played at the end of every lunch and we’d dance around to it (this was an infant school in the 90s) Think it was a fitness thing? Presume there was other songs but that’s the only one I remember

Goldencup · 23/09/2023 19:27

Octopus' garden

I don't remember songs to do with school, but pre school I remember "Down town" by Petula Clark, "Thank you very much for the Aintree Iron" (?The Scaffold) & Lily the Pink.
My dad used to play "Mud, mud, glorious mud".
I also associate "Two Little Boys" with my early years.

SpaceJamtart · 23/09/2023 20:04

My reception teacher played Agadoo as our tidy up song, so that I guess

Cauliflowers Fluffy?

Nuffaluff · 23/09/2023 20:13

Karma Chameleon by Culture Club is the first song I remember from when I was five. We had conversations about whether Boy George was a boy or a girl.
Also Fame by the Kids from Fame. It was on TV and it was massive. We had a whole half term of ‘dancing’ to it in PE which basically involved repeatedly jumping off a gym horse and trying to do the splits in the air.

OnAFrolicOfMyOwn · 23/09/2023 20:13

Sunday Girl by Blondie

Lots of hymns, too - first time I had encountered hymns as the child of agnostics.

A song called 'Come and join the celebration' that was sung in assembly whenever people had birthdays.

DinnaeFashYersel · 23/09/2023 20:15

Honestly it was a long time ago and I don't link songs to those memories.

The songs from the musical Grease were all over the charts and I liked Grease then so if my 5 year old self was singing along to something back then it would be that.

kwetu · 23/09/2023 20:19

Gawd 'morning has broken' had to sing it in assembly every-single-day.

Raisinsandweetabix · 23/09/2023 20:22

kyle minogue the locamotion, especially for you , must have been played at every reception party lol.

dressedforcomfort · 23/09/2023 20:35

Don't remember any tunes from infant school but Come on Eileen - Dexys Midnight Runners - was played on the radio for what felt like MONTHS when I was about 7...
