Now that the temperature has dipped, I'm feeling these fall vibes and need some inspo to switch my weekly meals up 😊

Sausage stew and cheddar mash.

InDubiousBattle · 23/09/2023 18:46

The Hairy Bikers Sausage Casserole is a thing of beauty.

Justmuddlingalong · 23/09/2023 18:48

We've just had sausages, mashed potatoes and swede with onion gravy.
Stovies, baked spuds, chilli con carne, cottage pie and thick lentil or chicken broth are all autumnal favourites hear. We use the slow cooker a lot as the weather turns.

Ooh is this a book or a website recipe? I have a few of their books so wondering if I might have this ☺️

Arni Yiouvetsi (Greek dish - baked lamb with orzo)

Winter42 · 23/09/2023 18:53

I've currently got a big Ragu sauce in the slow cooker. Tomorrow we are having lamb hot pot. We had sausage and bean stew in the week and also 'nanny Plum' soup for any Ben and Holly fans out there.

Witchbitch20 · 23/09/2023 18:56

Toad in the hole, red cabbage, tons of gravy.

NiceViper · 23/09/2023 18:56

Autumn means venison and pheasant for us.

Probably with mustard mash and braised red cabbage

DixieLandReject · 23/09/2023 19:03

Yes, the hairy bikers sausage casserole Js amazing !

Lasagne with cheesey cauliflour or brocolli.
Burritos
Enchilaedas
Fajitas
Pulled pork on jacket potatoes
Mango chicken with rice - fry off diced chicken breast, (3 breasts for 4 servings) add 4 tablespoons mango chutney & 300ml double cream. Bring to a simmer for about 10 mins, stirring occasionally. Serve over rice.

Glovesandscarf · 23/09/2023 19:11

Coq au vin we use chicken thighs, can expand well with lots of vegetables if things are tight, recommend cheapest merlot. It’s so rich, freezes v well, better the next day.
goulash (or do I mean stroganoff?) one is heavy on paprika so v warming & one is creamy & great with mash & peas.
chicken soup with chili flakes added on top. Rice or pasta or potatoes.
really thick pasta bake with lots of cheese.

Butternut squash soup with sweet potato, chillies and a bit of crème fraîche

xyz111 · 23/09/2023 19:15

I remember my dad doing slower cooker beef with red wine, add in big chunks of carrot and potato. Serve with chunky bread. Mmmmmm il going to have to ask him for the recipe!!!

HighlandCowbag · 23/09/2023 19:18

We are having pulled beef (done in the slow cooker on a trivot of carrot battons and onions), with mashed potatoes and veg on Monday.

Chonky, thicky veggie soup with grated cheddar on top.

Sausage, mash and veg with onion gravy.

Beef stew and dumplings or big Yorkshire puddings.

Roast chicken with all the trimmings.

Jacket spuds and cauliflower cheese.

Gammon, new potatoes, veg and cheese sauce.

Fish with mash or new potatoes, veg and a sauce. Usually have this with salad in summer but veg instead makes it autumnal.

Fry up with baked beans instead of fried allotment tomatoes.

Pork chops with mash, veg and a sauce.

Basically veg instead of salad, and mash instead of new potatoes = autumn here.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 23/09/2023 19:18

Ive just made a chicken, bacon and leek bake with a cheesy crust and it feels very autumnal.
Also on the plan is a sausage, apple and parsnip tray bake.
Cauliflower and red pepper curry.
Root vegetable casserole with horseradish mash
Butternut squash and sage risotto
Cod wrapped in prosciutto
Stuffed red onions

Farmageddon · 23/09/2023 19:27

For a lunch idea - I had some homemade butternut squash and sweet potato soup today with crusty bread and it felt very autumny and comforting.

LilyLemonade · 23/09/2023 19:33

Mushroom risotto (Or any other kind of mushroom dish)

waldorf salad.

salad with pear, blue cheese and walnuts.

Tarte tatin

Apple and / or plum crumble

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/09/2023 19:46

Especially if you’re economising, a thick and really substantial veg soup, plenty of different seasonal veg (chopped small,,not puréed) plus e.g. red lentils, pearl barley, orzo, maybe a tin of kidney or butter beans. Serve with nice bread and grated cheese.

Or a minestrone ditto, tinned tomatoes, lots of veg and pasta, beans as above, Italian herbs, fresh basil if you have, garlic bread.

DeanElderberry · 23/09/2023 19:47

I had to do a last minute meal rethink last week, and had large flat mushrooms filled with a mixture of chopped apple from the garden (not a Cox's but similar tart / sweet flavour) and soft blue cheese, topped with a streaky rasher. About 20 minutes in the oven so the bacon crisped and the mushroom got dark and rich and delicious. I didn't have anything with it, but a good brown bread would have bulked it out. Can recommend.

Getabloominmoveon · 23/09/2023 19:49

Roasted duck legs (M&S 2 for £5) w mashed potatoes, red cabbage, greens etc
Slow cooked oxtail ragu (J. Oliver) w pasta
Thick soup made with veg + Waitrose soup mix (cheaper than Sainsbury’s) and a tin of tomatoes.

Yum. Love this season

AccidentallyFabulous · 23/09/2023 19:52

This is taking me back to a time when DS asked what was for dinner at about this time of year and I said

"Chicken pie then crumble, that's autumnal!"

So that's my answer...

Pallisers · 23/09/2023 19:53

I have a bacon and lentil soup on the stove.

ErinAndTonic · 23/09/2023 21:35

So many great ideas - thank you all!

Determined to get into the season and not fall into a negative mindset about winter coming and it getting all cold and grey.

Think I'll give a pumpkin pie a go too - and try my first pumpkin spice latte.

Hope to have given others a few ideas as well ☺️
