It's impossible to get tickets to gigs these days

DD and I both tried and failed to get tickets for Taylor Swift. Now, Olivia Rodrigo tickets are invite only. How do you even get an invite?

I have only ever managed to get tickets to one sold out gig 20 years ago and that was because a cabling engineer who was doing a massive contract on our site, knew someone on the ticket lines.

We (in hindsight very naively, thankfully we had no problems) gave him our credit card details/address etc to pass onto the guy and he put them through as soon as the lines opened - there were around 10 people from our work alone and we all got the max 6 tickets each - we didn't even know the guy so suspect he must have put through 100s of orders from friends and friends of friends.

It was a brilliant night and we were just a few metres back from the stage (not saying who as they are not as popular anymore 🤣).

Older more moral me thinks it is terrible that happened and hopefully there is the technology in place now to prevent that. It is a shame fans can't get to see their favourite artists, but I guess that is the problem with supply and demand for mega stars.

I had a pre sale code for Taylor Swift from the album we purchased 10 months beforehand and I found it extremely difficult to get tickets - ended up paying £300 per ticket for a city that will cost £300 in flights / accomm. Couldn’t get London where I could have stayed with family for £0.
there was 48 hours to register for pre sale for Taylor Swift (advertised on her insta). I know loads of people who got wait listed and my friend who did get a code could only get through when the only tickets left were £600 each.
Olivia R we registered as Co-op members for the co op Manchester arena and despite having the pre sale code couldn’t get tickets at all. I very briefly had tickets in my basket but the page immediately refreshed to an error. I also tried to register normally and was wait listed. Painful! Both times took hours out my work day trying to refresh reload etc

Co op members get a presale but there is only a certain amount of tickets. 500 I think. Have a colleague who works on this at Co op. He doesn't get any freebies or special access.

I rarely struggle, but I go to smaller gigs tbh and am less keen on stadium gigs.

That said, Glasto tickets are for sale in November and they are an absolute pain to get. Managed time before last but didn’t get any last year. 🤞 we are successful this time.

I am really scared of heights. I remember years ago could always choose on the flat or a few rows up if got on line or rung up quick but now got no chance. I never go to concerts with friends now as they just go for what they can get at the time of booking so I say leave me out unless not too high. Its so hard.

I was on the wait list on ticketmaster and live nation pre sale for OR. Managed to get logged on in the lobby and then the queue. I had 2 browsers open one for Fri the other sat. The Friday one had 1790 in the queue and sat had 350 I managed to get the sat. It's a crazy system but I guess it it ment to stop bots logging on.

Tho I'm more impressed I got Tom Jones tickets. 4 rows from the front!!!!! (Sorry needed to brag lol)

You still can choose.
It's a shame you don't go anymore when it's v easy to get floor tickets.
I went to a "sold out", show earlier this year, except I got four floor tickets the week before.

Ohh thanks. I will try again then in the future . Last one they went to was a football stadium one and could only get really high. May look at smaller events too.

Totally agree.

Dynamic pricing is such a rip off.

But until people stop paying ££££ for tickets it won't stop. I have a friend who bought Taylor swift tickets in Europe as couldn't get any for uk - and the cost of the vip tickets, flights and hotel is more than many people pay for their main holiday - just nuts,

Artists are now just creating the hype for their own shows and very much bank on parents not wanting to disappoint their kids.

Ticket touts are a problem too

Until there is legislation it won't stop.

Twickets.
The artists themselves support it.
You can't sell for over face value and tickets come up, even the big, "sold out", shows such as Harry Styles right up until the day, in fact, that's often the best time to get them as people can't go last minute and will sell them really cheap.

You really don't have to participate in any waitlist thing at all.
