Is Royal Mail disrupted?

This is weird. I work from home and rely on post coming daily. I have had no post at all this week despite knowing I'm due some deliveries. (Not tracked unfortunately) I saw a post van in the street earlier who delivered a parcel to my neighbour but he's gone again.

No letters. Is this a thing? Do Royal Mail not deliver daily any more?

Thanks xx

I’m not sure what is Royal about it. It needs to be nationalised. Then we might receive some actual post

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/09/2023 19:34

We’re still getting post almost daily. And parcels are arriving quickly - 2 separate ones yesterday, and I only ordered both items 3 days ago.

If there’s a choice when ordering, I always choose RM rather than e.g. Evri.

I'm not even going to pretend I'm not envious. That's bloody good service, it's just a huge pity that it's not the same across the whole country.

We last had post, about 14 letters in one go, on Monday and nothing since. It's frustrating that those of us who would choose otherwise cannot change who delivers the letters like you can with parcels.

Christ where do you live? In another country?!

l live in a big city and the RM is like a ghost service. Rarely seen. Evri all the way!

mondaytosunday · 23/09/2023 20:36

We don't get post for weeks at a time, and this is a densely populated street in London! I was getting Christmas cards in February. Everyone complains, we get the odd delivery then nothing fue a week. This last three weeks we have had about five deliveries, which is almost a record!

cardibach · 23/09/2023 20:40

They are the absolute best for parcels. Easy tracking, quick delivery and t(e ability to choose a convenient day. I do the happy dance if I find something I’ve ordered is coming with RM.
Don’t seem to have an issue with letters either.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/09/2023 21:19

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow , outer SW London.

I dare say we’re just lucky, but our postman is lovely.
Bloody Evri has delivered our parcels to the wrong house more than once. Useless.

A good postie is the golden ticket in life

Have a look online they will tell you of service updates

Exactly same issue to me for 10days now.
Sent a complain email to RM but response is [ We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week.] - not helpful at all.

I am really not sure what to do next.

The problem is there isn't anything else you can do. They have us over a barrel and whilst I'm exceeding sympathetic about the staffing issues and working conditions we simply have no choice but to put up with it which is very frustrating.

It's not like we can ask for someone else to deliver our letter like you can with parcels so they know that whilst we may complain there's not a think we can do about it and therefore there is no incentive for them to fix the problems.

It's really sad that you can't put an important letter or a birthday card in a postbox with a first class stamp on it and rely on Royal Mail to deliver it the next day or even two days after any more.

I didn't get a single card on my birthday then went on holiday for a couple of weeks and on the day I returned, postie handed me a pile of post including birthday cards from over 2 weeks before! 😔

TreesAtSea · 25/09/2023 18:02

I'm in Brighton and RM have gone from bad to worse in recent months. I haven't had a postal delivery for three weeks. Similar happened in June/July so I'd go to the delivery office once every week or so and collect my post in person. Even that's more difficult now as they've slashed the hours when you can go and actually see anyone there.
It's truly abysmal.

orchardsquare · 25/09/2023 18:07

I think so, yes. We used to never get post on Mondays, but now it seems we only get deliveries about twice a week - Tuesdays and I can't remember the other day but everything all at once. I had suspicions for a while, but it seems too much coincidence not to be true.

Birthdaycake369 · 30/09/2023 23:18

No, the mail is only being delivered once all tracked items have gone out. Royal Mail are deliberately not delivering letters daily, they want to get rid of the USO and focus on the profitable parcel side so are purposely failing walks. Some rounds are sitting in the frame for up to a week before being delivered. Posties are leaving in their droves. This is what the posties were striking against last year but Royal Mail are forcing through these changes by executive action. No matter what the company say, they 100% do prioritise tracked parcels over letters. The service is at an all time low. It’s so sad but in 5 years time this 500+ year old company will be gone due to greed.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 30/09/2023 23:21

Royal Mail now focus on parcel delivery as that is more profitable.
They deliver letters when they can spare a postie away from delivering parcels.
I only get letters once every 10 days or so but sometimes it can be longer. Hospital appointments have been missed as a result.
The joys of privatisation. Remember thar at the polling booth.

Bananas1350 · 01/10/2023 07:15

I got a text message yesterday reminding me of a really important appointment from the hospital. An appointment that I didn’t know I had as no letter has ever come through my door. Luckily I got the message or I wouldn’t have known anything about it. We only seem to get post round here a couple of days a week.

OneLittleFinger · 01/10/2023 08:26

I live in the sticks but usually get daily post. Haven't had anything for a good few days. It's very strange.

bruffin · 01/10/2023 08:35

All my birthday cards arrived the day after at 6.30 in the evenimg!

TreesAtSea · 01/10/2023 10:17

I posted up-thread about not having had a delivery for three weeks. Some post came a few days later, including a letter dated almost five weeks previously, a postcard sent first class that took 13 days, an invite to a residents' meeting that had already taken place and other items that had taken around 10 days to arrive.

I also suspect they're chucking post they see as junk mail, while of course still delivering the junk mail they're paid to deliver, as a monthly catalogue I normally receive never showed up.

No letters to our household for 2 weeks now... Are those undelivered letters in delivery office?

Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 · 01/10/2023 13:06

I've been ordering parcels this week for Christmas and most things were delivered promptly . One parcel was delivered by Royal mail . It took five days . I never normally get things delivered from them but jeez they are the slowest of all companies .

Probably, yes.

6strings1song · 01/10/2023 13:28

We get post about twice a week, but I think that is only because we live half a mile from a big mail depot (first on route??) I see the postie most days (even Sunday!) with a big red box trolley going up and down the road...but it must just be parcels. If I am on the look out for a letter I will often check the CCTV notifications and often times it is just the postie popping across to the neighbours with a parcel. Our letters and post will then come in a big bundle with junk mail twice a week.

During a particularly bad period during covid no one in our area got post for about 3 weeks. I avoid posting things at all costs.
