I promised DD5 she could have edible real flowers on her cake today. Read the recipe for crystallising rose petals . All good. Did NOT read the but to say they had to dry for 24 hours!!!

oven very low setting?

Do you have a Waitrose nearby? They sell them. Or just buy some non toxic flowers and use fresh. Pansies / violas are fine and you'll pick a bedding box up at any garden centre as they're in season now; probably they will have some outside the supermarket too.

This. Also, where are you getting the petals from? Commercially grown roses will be full of chemicals. You need pesticide free roses.

Even better! Good luck OP.

I second oven on a very low setting.

I did egg white wash, then dip in sugar, leave on baking paper on a baking tray. Used roses from our garden that we don't spray. They were delicious!

M&S sell edible petals too (ours sell them in the veg section). Good luck!

MissPettigrewIsWFH · 23/09/2023 08:48

V rural. No shops. Lots of roses in garden! Trying low oven. Also have calendula in veg patch!

why cant you make fake petals out of icing ?

CheshireSplat · 23/09/2023 08:52

What other flowers do you have in the garden? My marigolds are just about still okay and you wouldn't need to dry them, just drop them on.

Because she promised her 5 year old she could have edible real flowers on her cake and is trying to fulfil that promise.

Fab973 · 23/09/2023 19:22

MissPettigrewIsWFH · 25/09/2023 07:17

Hi there 😁😁😁🤗
Can Anyone recommended how best to look after a Succulent plant for indoors? It’s called Aeonium Tricolour! I have put it on my bedroom window sill with a 2 week drip feeder put in the compost it came with & it’s at a slant! I know to only water once in a blue moon! Is there anything else I maybe missing? Any advice would be gratefully received! Thank You x a Zillion in advance 🫶🏻💕🙏🏻💫👍🏻👍🏻🤟🏻👊🏻

My advice would be to post your own thread, rather than on one about edible rose petals.

I'm not sure that it will need the drip feeder, but I'm no expert.

JollyPombea · 08/04/2024 13:57

To NeverEnoughPants, Sorry but it’s my first time on here & working out how to use this site! Thanks for Your reply, much appreciated! 😆🤗

NeverEnoughPants · 08/04/2024 13:58

No need to apologise, I hope you find someone with better answers than me :)

JollyPombea · 08/04/2024 16:44

Thanks NeverEnoughPants 😁😁😆That’s much appreciated 🫶🏻🙏🏻💫👍🏻👍🏻🤟🏻👊🏻I’m going to Homebase tomorrow so I will have a nose around in there & see if there’s anything more to find out! I know that You have to repot them in Cacti & Succulent compost! Have a Blessed & Gorgeous week ahead 🫶🏻🙏🏻💫

Andthereyougo · 08/04/2024 16:47

@NeverEnoughPants I’d say take the drip feeder out, doesn’t need it. Then just leave it somewhere with warmth, light and low humidity.

HoppingPavlova · 08/04/2024 16:52

That’s such a sweet cake OP, I’m sure she loved it❤️.

Oblomov24 · 08/04/2024 16:58

Looks fabulous op.

BaleOfHay · 08/04/2024 17:03

Thank you! I know nothing about succulents though....!
