“Back in the day…”

What does that mean to you when you hear that phrase?
What period of your life does your mind automatically refer to when it is said?

(Totally inspired by listening to heart radio having a chat with Kylie Minogue, when they asked what does a Kylie fan look like now, and she replied something along the lines of “well back in the day, whatever that means to you…”)

To me, ‘back in the day’ takes me straight back to the glorious 80s, when I was young, fit and hot (obvs 😆) and having the time of my life!

To me it’s any time in my childhood or before that.

If i heat myself saying it (which is often) it reminds me that I am now Officially Old Grin

My formative years were the 90s so now that time is having a revival I have many moments when I say it.

I was in River Island with DD a few weeks back and saw a gorgeous but totally flammable polyester satin look maxi skirt which I swear was identical to one o fit there Back In The Day. DD initially loved it then was half impressed/half horrified our young tastes are so similar

Probably mid -late 80s for me I was having the best time ! Incidentally I saw Kylie on BBC breakfast today, she looks amazing she's the same age as me I don't look a miniscule as good as she does !

Back In The Day I’d personally think of the 80s when I was a small child.

80s/90s for me... pre-adulthood.

Oakbeam · 22/09/2023 10:12

Back in the day, nobody said back in the day.

I'm 49 so any time from 10 years ago to the past

Kylie is always evasive in interviews and I don't think her answer really made sense. She was probably trying to get round having to say we are now middle aged!
