Toilet got blocked and overflowed onto the floor, anxious I haven't cleaned it enough (TMI warning)

TMI warning, and sorry about posting about this on here I'm just feeling really anxious that I haven't cleaned this up well enough.

The toilet got blocked after a member of my household did a poo, and after they flushed it the water rose up and overflowed onto the floor. It was brown water.

A plunger wouldn't work, so I had to use a jug and empty the water down the sink as it was the nearest thing (it's the sink we use to brush our teeth, wash our faces etc which is making me feel anxious).

I then used an old towel to soak up the water on the bathroom floor which I threw away, then I sprayed bathroom cleaner all over the floor and wiped it, then I used those disposable mop wipes to clean the area, followed by mopping the entire bathroom floor.

For the sink, I have cleaned the sink area and taps about 5 times with bathroom spray and hot water.

I don't have any bleach.

Is this sufficient? The bathroom looks and smells clean but I'm so anxious about it, I have a history of contamination OCD and so this is making me feel so on edge.

Have you checked the outside drain is not blocked?

FallingAutumnLeaf · 22/09/2023 09:23

It will be absolutly fine. I think you will have done this, but id also wipe down the toilet (once)

Have you checked the loo is flushing normally now? Test it before someone uses it, then it is cleaner water that escapes.

Deep breath. You've got this.

My mums house has the sewer access in her garden and it backed up and overflowed once when we were kids due to a neighbour flushing wipes. The waterboard came out to fix it and after hosing everything back down the sewer told my mum to use dettol as this is the best product for killing germs. If you're still concerned splash a little neat dettol on the floor and around the sink and then wipe round with a cloth.

You’ve cleaned it perfectly, even more than I did when the same thing happened to mine last year.
Fwiw have a thin garden cane handy as that has a bit of flex in it. It’s usually the copious amounts of toilet paper that cause the blockage. You can just bin the cane afterwards.

Mate of mine had a boat. Boat loos block on a regular basis so un-blocking was a frequent task. His mantra before he started always was "Remember there's nothing down here that you did not eat!".

I think you'll be fine with what you have done OP but I'd flush the loo a few times to make sure it doesn't block again.
