How long did it take you to pack up your house (when moving)?

Like, not if you were dribbling about packing boxes for weeks. I mean once you really got down to it and went full speed packing books and cupboards and pictures and everything.

Trying to work out how long it's going to take us. How long is a piece of string?

Is it going to take way longer than I think it is? Or is it going to be doable in a couple of days with everyone pitching in?

If you have a lot to sort/ dump/ charity shop l would say a week. Especially if you have an attic full f stuff. if you manage to live a minimalist life..a few days. Also depends on how many dc if any as they always seem to have loads of stuff.
And cleaning as you go takes energy and effort too.
I would say a week would do it.
I am getting ready for a move and it has taken us a week to get rid of as much as we can but we are 20 years in this house and our dc are adults who have gone but left stuff behind which needs sorting. We also have a big garage. So really it depends on size/ lifestyle/ number of people helping and amount of years ye have been accumulating stuff.

The "professionals" can pack and load a 4 bedroom house in about a day and half to do two days. That's just putting everything in the nearest box, no sorting etc.

When you do your own stuff it takes longer as you aren't as fast, and you do tend to keep order to help at the other end.

Professionals did our 4 bed in just over a day. That also included dismantling furniture. But it had been sorted within an inch of its life, and they worked really hard - I'm not sure I'm fit enough to do what they did.

I'd sort and declutter now.
Half a day, every day, for a week should do the packing - remember you need some if it over that time!

We did a two bed over a week (including taking things to the dump etc and cleaning up).

It's hell as well.

We will hopefully be moving soon, how much did it cost to get the professionals in? I'm not sure I've got it in me to do it by myself!

That's helpful. We're moving in 7 days.

Yes kids, but they're teens so (theoretically) helpful.

We've been sorting and decluttering. Done all the dump runs and sold the stuff we need to sell.

I think DH and DS will start dismantling over the weekend.

I've done big problem areas like the craft cupboard and the kids cupboards. DH has done his office. Youngest has done her desk.

Not too cluttered. We're not minimalist by any stretch but things mostly live where they're supposed to.

We don't have to clean on moving day. We'll come back the next day to do that.

I've had professional movers before and I prefer doing it ourselves.
