Anyone qualified to advise on joint pain or injury?

DS hurt his leg playing sport a few months ago - specifically his knee. It was a little swollen at the time, quite but not extremely painful and seemed to improve with rest and ice packs.

It hasn't gone quite back to normal and has hurt after sport/exertion. He's not in pain when he walks and it's not sore to touch. He will be seeing a physio. In the meantime, it's not clear whether he should rest it and avoid any sport, or continue as normal whilst being careful.

A HCP who didn't give me much confidence and who isn't a specialist said to carry on being active and playing sport. Other people are telling me he should carry on resting it.

We could be waiting weeks for him to see the physio and I don't want him to be missing PE and clubs unless it's necessary but I also don't want to cause any lasting damage to his leg.

Any advice?

Nobody can say precisely what you should do online.

The general rule is to keep up mobility, this keeps the joints & muscles strong.
Not moving in a way that causes any new pain or existing pain to get worse. But may mean moving around a sore bit of body. If it's not more painful afterwards, then that amount of movement didn't do harm.

as a rule of thumb
