Does this look like chicken pox?

Thought it was a pimple but it’s now got redder and bigger and he has another one above his brow bone and one on his cheek.
also snuffly and just realised he has a temperature.

I thought chicken pox were supposed to be more blister like which is why I thought it was just a spot!

Neither of my daughters chicken pox looked like this, both started with blisters

SisterMichaelsHabit · 21/09/2023 16:15

Not at the moment but it might develop that way over the next few hours?

SisterMichaelsHabit · 21/09/2023 16:16

You can also get nasty rashes with viruses such as RSV though, both of my kids have had rashes with some respiratory viruses this year.

Okay that’s a relief as he’s had the spot for a couple of days

I might do a Covid test

It’s odd as it doesn’t look like a rash as such, just a few random spots scattered around

Has he been playing outside? Midges have been wild the last week here and I came up in several bites like this after walking my dog today and was very sniffly for several hours after, so may be midge bites and he's a little sensitive to them?

Aberforthspoorgoat · 21/09/2023 16:20

I guess at nursery but only in the nursery garden

It looks just like how DD's chickenpox started. We thought it must be insect bites at the time too. Definitely was CP though!

fearfuloffluff · 21/09/2023 16:25

Cp comes thick and fast, if he's only had one or two across a couple of days then I doubt it's cp

Aberforthspoorgoat · 21/09/2023 16:26

Hmm. I’ll have to keep an eye and not give nurofen for temp just incase
how long do the spots usually take to blister? I’m trying to remember how long he’s had the one on his arm and face

Aberforthspoorgoat · 21/09/2023 16:26

@fearfuloffluff this is what I was expecting but apparently I only had 5 spots and a temp when I had it as a kid! So that’s what made me wonder

Are they itchy? DD2 had 5 pox on her back for a week before they started to spread and looked just like bites.

Aberforthspoorgoat · 21/09/2023 16:36

He’s not noticeably itching that I can see, although he kept rubbing the one above his eye yesterday.

I thought it would be way more obvious what it was when he got it.
kicking myself now as he’s had a cold since Saturday and because he seemed better went into nursery Tuesday - I only noticed the spots Tuesday evening or yesterday can’t quite remember. It’s doing the rounds at nursery apparently and has been for a while, I hadn’t realised

We are supposed to be going on holiday next Friday 🙈

I’ve just noticed a few more, very small at the moment but definitely weren’t there yesterday

OP posts:
Aberforthspoorgoat · 22/09/2023 07:48

Can’t see any new spots this morning so I don’t think it can be chicken pox
