Very interested to hear opinions on this film for those who have seen it...

Alex. Criminal or victim?

I remember FA when it first came out and it sparked loads of water-cooler conversation!

Personally, I think she was both. Dan was totally up front with her about being married but he treated her appallingly. She clearly had mental health issues.

Great film.

I've just finished the first season of the remake. Not bad at all, looks at it from a completely different point of view.

I agree she was both. Even at the time I remember thinking what the f* about Michael Douglas's character. He was away from his wife for just 1 or 2 nights and he starts shagging somebody else straight away.

I thought his wife should have ditched him.

I thought it was a horrible misogynist film that said either you are squeaky clean innocent wife material or you are a fucking crazed demon incidentally only good for sex, and the man is blameless either way. Totally traditional Madonna or whore view of women. Hated it. Interestingly the man I saw it with agreed with me. This was when it came out.

I think it's a great film. But very of its time. Misogynistic as hell. Husband is a piece of shit. I think/hope these days there'd be a more nuanced look at Alex's mental state instead of 'Caution! This is what single and childless career women are like! Total loons out to ruin your life!'

It's one of several films where women mysteriously lose their minds for Michael Douglas. There was one where Demi Moore was his boss and she just HAD to have him.

Ah yes, Disclosure I believe it was called. I also think the wife should have left him, he literally has the perfect life and torpedoes the whole thing for a fuck. Baffling.

I watched the original film the other night for first time in years. My perspective has completely changed. He is a shut, he is so affectionate with Alex those 2 days of their affair, it didn't seem like just sex, he was really leading her on. His wife was so wet and perfect , she really annoyed me and I really pitied for Alex. Glenn Close was amazing in it. Still a fab film though.

PS I used to really fancy Michael Douglas in Romancing the Stone!

When I was younger probably a teenager I thought his wife was boring and vanilla but watching it earlier I think she's pretty cool. Beautiful, sociable, loving and fun.
