A few weeks ago I woke up with a UTI.

Chemist gave me a 3 day course of antibiotics (nitrofurantoin) however symptom persisted, went to GP who tested urine , infection and high +++ blood.

After 5 days I was still having symptoms (frequent need and urgency to pee, pelvic pain and kidney uncomfortableness’s) so went to GP, high temperature of 38.6, bloody pressure of 138/92, blood still showing of +++ and still showing traces of infection.

They sent away swobs and urine and prescribed metronidazole 400mg 7 day course.

I’m on the 7th day of the antibiotics and last night has been the worse night, I passed out, in the bathroom, constant and urgent need to pee even tho there is no pee to pee which feels like constant exposed nerves , visible blood in urine, fever, high temp 39.4, clammy,

Requested an appointment today and was seen this morning by a late 50’s male GP.

My previous swobs/urine samples were clear however symptoms worsening , high temp of 40.1 and a concerning blood pressure of 158/102 (he took it 3 times)

He felt tummy, listened to chest, checked throat… all seems clear.

Did ask if I was having breathing difficulties several times (I’m not, however having heartburn/tummy issues with the antibiotics) which I’m taking gavaiscon for.

He asked me what I thought it could be…. I said I didn’t know.

I’m frequent to UTI however have never felt like this previously or had one this long, I’ve also NEVER had blood pressure issues… he then asked again what I suspected it was….

Again told him I had no idea and just wanted to get to the bottom of it.

It’s impacting on my life and I’m currently unable me to go to work due to the way I’m feeling (he’s given me a sick note that says feeling unwell?) 🤯

He’s asked for a blood test, stool and urine sample tomorrow.

I asked if he has any idea and he said no, just that I’m clearly fighting something and prescribed another antibiotic?? (Swobs/urine clear) , this will be my 3rd lot of antibiotics in 2 weeks and to take paracetamol for the temp.

Anyone any idea as I’m at a complete loss. Really concerned about my BP, both my parents have/had heart issues, my
mum has a triple heart bypass a few years ago and my dad although was an alcoholic died aged 41 with a heart attack (I’m a few years younger)

Gp here. I would have admitted you. It’s clear the oral antibiotics are not working and you need a scan of your kidneys. If you’re still feeling rough tomorrow ring your gp for an urgent review or attend a&e. Sorry. And hope you feel better soon

Thanks @QueenPB - he’s put me on Flucloxacillin 500g x 4 daily for 14 days.

Received a call today from GP to go back next week as some blood tests have flagged issues with thyroid, liver, kidney and white cell count?
I should have asked however didn’t want to worry myself over the weekend as I would have been googling like mad trying to figure it out.

Blood pressure still high (been advised I need to take this 3 x a day (well 9 times and they will work oh the average)

I started another thread in women’s health and a poster linked to this - Interstitial cystitis - last year they believed I had some stones however this was rule out after a scan of my kidney and bladder (camera I think) however they didn’t it’s my lining was inflamed and not as it should be.

I have every single symptom and have had for years and it does seem
to come in flares but it doesn’t explain the raised levels or high blood
pressure.

i don’t want to be stuck in a hospital bed however this bout of illness feels relentless and exhausting, physically and mentally.

You need to be in hospital. It sounds like you have a serious infection somewhere. Get back onto them.

Could it be sepsis? I would go to A&E and mention this to them?

This is not normal and very concerning. I am aghast you're still at home! You should be admitted to hospital with heaps of tests being done and on an IV antibiotic drip.

I would go to A&E
