Thread 10 - TalkLair: “The candle flame gutters. Its little pool of light trembles.”

Continuation of previous threads (thread 9).

Although the nights are gradually drawing in, the new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey inside. The hearth is glowing, the walls covered in dubious artwork, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Got through my first feed with no problems. Felt a bit sick for about five minutes and had a few moments of "Well that hurts!" but mostly it was just wandering around attached to a small machine and a bottle of goop and waiting for the feed to end. There was some tube on view and the cats stayed away from it which was a result.

artant · 14/11/2023 15:55

Almost bare trees here too and a carpet of sycamore leaves on what passes for my lawn. This morning we had awful rain, timed, as luck would have it, for when I had to get my mum to the chiropodist. Getting her to the car was pretty scary as was the drive. It’s sunny now, obviously.

Tricyrtis2022 · 14/11/2023 16:10

Mouse, glad to hear you're able to deal with this new way of nourishing yourself, even if it does sound rather strange. It's good you've got some way to get food into your system, which sounds like it was pretty tricky before.

Glad the first feed is done, Mouse (and without cat attacks). Should they get less uncomfortable once your body gets used to it?

Kucinghitam · 14/11/2023 17:24

I hope the feeding process becomes easier and more comfortable as your body acclimatises, @MouseMinge.

OP posts:
MouseMinge · 14/11/2023 17:31

I'm sure it will, @Kucinghitam . It wasn't awful yesterday and I'm sure the next one, probably tomorrow as I've been putting it off today so I wouldn't be carting food around when I went over to Morrison's to pick up a parcel, will be a bit easier.

MavisMcMinty · 14/11/2023 17:50

What bit is sore when you feed, Mouse? The fresh-ish wound where the tube goes in? I’m sure that’ll get less as time goes on.

Sorry, “when you feed” summons up the vision of a raptor!

duc748 · 14/11/2023 17:53

Or a vampire...

MavisMcMinty · 14/11/2023 18:02

Didn’t know if Mouse has read Dr Sleep yet, or I’d’ve said The True Knot.

MouseMinge · 14/11/2023 19:07

I have read Doctor Sleep, it was my second Stephen King after The Shining which indicates how long it took me to read The Shining.

It's the inside bit that hurts a bit, Mavis, the inner tubing. It makes sense because the tubes are being filled by the goop and the jejunum isn't used to that sort of nonsense. Yet.

Today I'm on the Fortisip and back to the feeding tube tomorrow.

I like the idea of being a vampire but I think they'd boak if they saw the digestive biscuit liquid that counts for my food.

Gonners · 14/11/2023 20:31

They could at least make it look like ice cream with berries and swirls of chocolate sauce.

SinnerBoy · 14/11/2023 22:25

BoakingVampire is surely a username in waiting?

VictorianBigot · 14/11/2023 23:01

I was eyeing up DigestiveBiscuitLiquid personally

Kucinghitam · 15/11/2023 08:21

Haha! Would it be naughty of me to bagsy both of those names? Grin

Didn't want to start a new thread, so I'm going to canvass for opinions here.

Couple of weeks ago, I bought a set of 6 motion-detecting solar lights fulfilled by EvilAmazon, to illuminate the front drive up to the bike shed. Got them charged up, then turned them on to the relevant "motion detection" setting, checked (by putting hand over panel) that they were switched on. BUT! From the very first evening, 2 of them didn't work properly; one just flashed constantly until its battery gave up whilst the other just sat in stubborn unresponsive darkness. Since then, both faulty lights have failed to light up at all.

I therefore gave the product a low rating and wrote a review explaining precisely the above.

To my surprise, the seller has replied to my review and offered to send 2 replacement lights to me. Now my dilemma - EvilAmazon have a standard piece of text reminding customers not to provide personal details in correspondence to sellers, literally at the bottom of each message. So, should I tell the seller my address or not?

duc748 · 15/11/2023 10:05

Wouldn't bother me. Wouldn't be optimistic about lights if two of them have crapped out already, though.

Britinme · 15/11/2023 10:09

Wouldn't bother me either. Good customer service to offer to replace the lights. However if you're dubious you could try Amazon customer service first.

Tricyrtis2022 · 15/11/2023 10:09

We got something similar, Kuc, and the lights really were rubbish and gave off very little light. We sent them back. There's an awful lot of tat on the market these days but it's hard to tell until you get it home.

Kucinghitam · 15/11/2023 10:26

Thanks for inputs! Yes, I agree with the frustrating amount of tat out there. I'd much rather have a smaller selection of actually decent products.

I had spent a bit of time checking reviews before plumping for these particular lights, and to be fair the ones that are working seem (so far) excellent and very bright.

OP posts:
SinnerBoy · 15/11/2023 11:48

Ah well, the seller doesn't want shyster ratings and if the reviews are good, just give it a go, I'd say.

Kucinghitam · 15/11/2023 13:09

FYI, this is what Amazon says in the message box!

A few years ago my credit card was compromised three times in a year. The bank wouldn't say which company was responsible but did say it was a 'very large online retailer', which I took to mean Amazon. Based on that, I'd be wary of giving out other personal information.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 15/11/2023 13:27

I'd also say Go through Amazon customer services

artant · 15/11/2023 17:15

I have two solar lights from evil Amazon either side of my side gate. I use the motion detection setting for the one facing the road but have had to switch the one facing the garden to always on (lasts about an hour at this time of year!) as they keep detecting light from each other as motion and set each other off repeatedly until they run out of charge.

On the actual question though, surely they have your address anyway unless the original order was sent from an Amazon warehouse (and if it was, surely the replacements could be sent the same way). I don’t recall ever being asked for my address in similar circumstances.

MouseMinge · 15/11/2023 20:45

Feel free to take any usernames that you fancy. I do like BoakingVampire but I think I need to remain MouseMinge for the foreseeable. The mad thing is that I can't even remember why I came up with that in the first place. I know we were all mucking about and then before you know it I have a username whose meaning has escaped me.
