Weekend away ideas with DH - similar to Brighton

Looking for a location for a break with DH later in the year. We managed to have 2 nights in Brighton earlier this summer and had a great time, as it is one of our favourite places to go too

looking for somewhere similar in terms of lots of independent bars / pubs and relaxed atmosphere, Ideally within a couple of hours from London.

I did think of Bristol but don’t know the city that well. We would probably book an Airbnb rather than a hotel.

Whitstable if you like the coast

We’ve been there for the day with the kids, it is lovely. Does it have much of a nightlife in the winter?

We do love the coast but happy to go inland especially as it’s winter

Rye?
Mermaid inn!

Windsor was lovely for the weekend. We too, love Brighton & was always our go to weekend away but Windsor was wonderful. Enjoy wherever you decide :)

I came in to suggest Whitstable, but I'm not sure it's a nightlight sort of place. How about York? It's a fab city and if you take the train, it's only a couple of hours.

Eve223 · 19/09/2023 19:45

Frome or the surrounding area.

IvorTheEngineDriver · 19/09/2023 19:46

Bath. But go by train. Traffic and parking are a total swine there.

Flockameanie · 19/09/2023 19:48

Edinburgh

Flockameanie · 19/09/2023 19:49

Sorry - missed the 2hrs of London thing! Probably not Edinburgh then…

Sparkletastic · 19/09/2023 19:49

Margate is great. It's a game of two halves but the old town is fantastic. Lots of great bars and restaurants and Air BnBs are very reasonable.

Howtohideasausage · 19/09/2023 19:50

Margate. There's enough to do in the evening. I came home pregnant...

Or Bristol.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/09/2023 19:54

Bristol is fabulous.

Oxford? Lovely bars and restaurants.

checkedcloth · 19/09/2023 19:55

Thanks all - great ideas.
liking the sound of Margate or Bristol, is there any parts of Bristol that you would recommend staying in?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 19/09/2023 19:57

Oxford? Easy to get to from London and plenty of pubs and restaurants.

ohyesohyesoh · 19/09/2023 20:00

We loved Bath.
Cambridge is good. Lots of pubs/ bars lovely restaurants
Oxford was nice to wander round for an afternoon , but we felt it was lacking 'something '
Obvs only our opinion but compared to other cities we have been to , it was our least favourite

talesfromabrokenmind · 19/09/2023 20:00

Votes for Edinburgh, Bath and Oxford - all fab places for a weekend break

RandomMess · 19/09/2023 20:04

Winchester? Possibly a little small.

OrigamiOwl · 19/09/2023 20:04

Norwich!

Bootoagoose123 · 19/09/2023 20:05

Definitely Margate/Broadstairs!

wannabesilverfox · 19/09/2023 20:28

Cambridge/ Bath / Bristol.

WeneedSamVimesonthecase · 19/09/2023 20:32

Actually Cambridge is lovely. DH and I stayed at a fabulous hotel overlooking the Cam with a rooftop bar.

Mermaid inn!

I agree and you can visit camber sands easily from there too

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 19/09/2023 20:40

Oxford

CurryandSnuggle · 19/09/2023 20:43

Bournemouth? Could stay in a spa hotel 😁
