American Fridge Freezer - where do you put the external filter?

Our Samsung fridge freezer which has an internal filter has been limping along for a couple of years now and we need to replace. We want another American fridge freezer - but most of them now seem to come with an external water filter. Our fridge is surrounded by cabinets - where do you put the filter? I do not want to have to pull the fridge out when the filter needs replaced.
Secondary question is what make is best - I would prefer it not to be Samsung (every Samsung appliance we have ever had has failed just outside the guarantee period) but they do seem to offer more choice.

Ours is a Samsung. The filter is in the back of the adjacent cupboard. The water pipe is so thin that a couple of little holes in the bottom of the cabinet did the job. The filters are tall and thin and take up hardly any room in the cupboard. You could also put it under the cupboard behind the plinth, but I think they're meant to be kept vertical.

Thanks @Letsnotargue . Did you fit it yourself or get a plumber to do it? We already have a water pipe going to current fridge but not sure if fitting the filter to it is something we can do ourselves or not.

We did it ourselves. It took about 5 minutes. They supply everything you need with the fridge so if you already have a water line it’ll be easy.
