DD part time job. Odd or normal?

Hi all,

My 17 year old DD has been looking for work. She has a job at the moment at X company but they are increasingly struggling to be able to offer her shifts that she can do around college hours. She has been offered a move to another branch but it’s a little far really so has been putting the feelers out for other things while she considers.

An acquaintance of hers who knows her situation put her in touch with someone who could potentially offer her some work. She messaged this lady an introductory message and had the following a few hours later: ‘Hi. I have just been into X company to ask about your work ethic’… then with some further questions.

My first response was WTF! She might well still want to be employed by this company. But is this normal? One to avoid or entirely acceptable?

Thank you!

Oh course it's not normal. Definitely one to avoid

That’s weird, they shouldn’t be speaking to her current employer!

over stepping

Complete invasion of privacy. Usually when you apply for a job, you give a reference of your choice and you tick a box to say whether you are happy for them to approach before interview.

Avoid this employer at all costs.

Thank you all. Guess my instinct was right then. Surely it’s not right for the company to have shared information about her either (reasons she can/can’t do certain shifts)?
