Frequent heart palpitations

Has anyone had this and what did it turn out to be for you?

For several days now I have frequent heart palpitations. In the evening it varies from every few minutes to several times per minute. Nothing concerning on Google so not worried but bemused as to why.

Had this when I was perimenopausal.

It lasted a couple of years, and sometimes after the palpitations my heart even seemed to stop beating for a few seconds,
and I felt like I was going to pass out.

Ask your GP for an ECG to check

Perimeno and also I got diagnosed with Underactive Thyroid as felt so exhausted and friend suggested get full bloods done and specifically ask for thyroid check. Hope you get sorted as it is very scary.

Under active thyroid for me.

Perimenopause as well. It honestly had me worried, because I didn't know it could be a symptom.

But definitely ask your doctor, there could be other reasons as well.

Extremely common during peri-menopause.

QuestionableMouse · 19/09/2023 02:36

Anemia does it for me.

I started getting this a lot a couple of years ago. Then read in a forum about how it's really common at my age (was 50 at the time) and that taking magnesium supplements might help as you use a lot of it during peri/menopause. Didn't really think this would work but thought I'd give it a try. Problem solved within 48 hours, I honestly couldn't believe it!

Get it checked out. If you get no joy from your GP call 111.

Please do go to your GP for a check. I had this, assumed was peri, as that was what I kept reading, and last year ended up being rushed into hospital when the palpitations went crazy, my heart rate went really high and it didn't stop. I was diagnosed with a common arrhythmic disorder (which sunny serious, but can become permanent) and needed my heart putting back into rhythm. For some people wit the condition, there is a risk of secondary problems. You may not have this, and as I say, on its own, it's not something to overly worry about anyway, but do get an ECG, possibly push for a 24 hour monitor if it's happening frequently and get bloods done, to check for thyroid issues.

Chances are, your palpitations are nothing, but it's far better to understand if there is a cause, and be reassured if there's not.
