Mouth pain and bad taste. Any experience?

All of a sudden my mouth is in a bad way. My tongue and roof of mouth feel almost like I’ve eaten something too hot and burnt them. They sting if I try to eat anything like crisps. Feels like I’ve got some little ulcers on my tongue too. And I have a horrible bad taste that won’t go away even when brushing my teeth. It’s really horrible. I feel fine otherwise. Anybody had this before?

It sounds as if you have an infection. You need to see GP or dentist. If you can't do either of those, speak to a pharmacist and ask for a mouthwash that will deal with bacterial and fungal infections. In the meantime, rinse frequently with hot salt water.

Infection.

Dentist is the best option before it gets really bad. They can give antibiotics specifically for mouth/gum infections.

Yes dentists urgently

I had similar and the pharmacist recommended Daktarin gel which you can buy over the counter. It worked for me and it's orange flavour so not nasty at all.

I had this! It came out of the blue, lasted a couple of days and then went away again. I have geographic tongue from time to time anyway and this was just like a bad bout of that. Touch wood it hasn’t come back.

I’ve got this! I was assuming covid but all the other comments are making me wonder if I need to see my GP?

I had this - I think it was oral thrush. I used Corsodyl (the proper one, not the everyday one) religiously for a fortnight - it healed pretty quickly but I wanted to make sure it didn't come back.

I found it made everything taste salty and my breath smelled grim. It sucks. I hope you feel better soon.

Crazyjanes · 18/09/2023 21:51

Off out for some Corsodyl. Seems that it can help thrush and infections. If it’s not helping in a day or 2 I’ll get a dentist to take a look. Thanks all.

Corsodyl mouthwash and toothpaste works I find. I have shit guns and get gingivitis and using both clears it up lovely.
but obviously you should go see a dentist for proper assessment.

I have this,I have Covid.

Crazyjanes · 18/09/2023 22:01

Do you have other symptoms @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor ?

I'm feverish today but I've had the mouth thing for a few days with no other symptoms.

Crazyjanes · 20/09/2023 22:27

Thank you so much to the posters who suggested Corsodyl. Mouth back to normal today. It says it works on infections, oral thrush and gingivitis so I’m not sure which one caused it. Booked a dentists appointment too.

I tested for covid and it was negative

Any idea how long I should use it for? I don’t want to risk tooth staining but also don’t want a sore mouth again!
