Right. I need tech help.

Last year I had a bit of a disaster. I was deleting photos and videos from Google photos because I was running out of storage. I didn't realise these were deleted off my device too. When I realised it was too late. I was absolutely gutted. When I found examples of those photos or videos on WhatsApp it said file not available.

On Gallery (it's an Android phone) there are shitty photos and I know I'm missing lovely ones that I obviously deleted. But there are lots that are still showing on WhatsApp but aren't on my gallery, or my files, or Google photos.

So. Where are they on my phone. Its driving me crazy.

Assuming toto don't have the "WhatsApp images" folder in your Google photos library?

If you go into the photos on WhatsApp, you can save them to your device, although I only how to do this individually....

I've found the WhatsApp folder. Why are they saved in there though, does it mean if I send the photo via WhatsApp (not take it in WhatsApp) it saves in the WhatsApp folder? I'm so confused.

Oh sorry that is only for pictures you've taken yourself, via WhatsApp.

For any you've been sent I think you'll have to go into them individually and save them back to your device.

If you have taken them not through WhatsApp, sent them but now accidentally got rid of the original file, I don't see a way to get them back. Unless WhatsApp stores it elsewhere within the app.

Try the three dots; settings; storage and data; manage storage; and select the first chat that comes up. Can you open those videos and pictures and then save to phone? I can't see a way to do it for everything in that chat though, even though there is a select all button, there is no option to save all.

Search for *.jpg and see what comes up. If you plug your phone into a laptop and do the search from there it might find them wherever they are stored.

Thank you! Will I see somewhere to search the whole phone?

Might work. Through Google photos app. Click library. Click bin. Select photos and click restore.

DueyCheatemAndHow · 24/09/2023 23:43

No they've been deleted from the bin sadly
